If so, how far in advance did you send it, and what did you write? She always reads them out starting with "Hi Elaine", but she won't be the one who reads it in the first place, so I feel rude starting it like that... I think I'm overthinking.  |

I don't know if there's a magic formula, but my request must have caught Jess' eye for some reason.

Well I've sent it, and had an auto-reply. It isn't for a couple of weeks so I'll cross my fingers, and either they'll e-mail back, or I'll just hear it on the day if they decide to go for it! I've adapted your very helpful 'template' Paul, thank you.  "Dear Elaine and production team, It's relative [name]'s [milestone] on [Sunday date], and I'd like to request a song please. [Story related to us listening to Radio 2, bit of humour, exclamation mark.] Would it be possible to play [song] because [reason]? If not, a song relating to [relevant topic 1] or [relevant topic 2] would be lovely. I emailed in recently requesting Elaine play Unusual Way from the musical Nine sung by yours truly. Didn’t get a reply, didn’t get my email read out, but they did play the song 3 weeks ago back to back with Bette Midler’s The Rose - I was in musical heaven.

Seems like Michelle Visage is the new Craig Revel Horwood or replacement. I have no issue with Michelle who has done 3 shows now, she has done the last 2 weeks and they have been enjoyable. Didn’t mindCraig Revel Horwood. But the show is better if it has someone who has a story to tell, I loved the one off shows presented by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bill Kenwright and Cameroon Mackintosh. I would love in the future for the show to be done by someone like Toby Marlowe and Elizabeth Moss or Dan Gillespie Sells, if they get a freehand over what they play, it is interesting to find out what songs made them who they are.
Now there is a thought, it would be wonderful if Stephen Sondheim done a show also.
When Andrew Lloyd Webber sat in, in 2016 he played Unusual Way by Elaine Paige, this was when I fell head over heels in love with the song and played it like a 100 times.

The show is sometimes recorded a few weeks ahead depending on EP's commitments so if your request is tied to a certain anniversary etc, get it in early!

I once got I can’t sing played from I can’t sing jokingly emailing in after a lyricist special saying I was disappointed the lyrical mastermind of Harry Hill was not recognised 😉
