With the closure of the old forum, I thought it would be a suitable time to discuss some of the great forum memories of the last decade.
I'll kick off when it was discovered staff members of a certain London entertainment venue were unveiled as posting very positive comments about a less than excellent show...at their venue.

In the early days people could post as guests without registering so there was a period when most threads were overrun with pr0n spammers

A favourite sequence of moments: Over a period of several months a number of posts from various new members appeared, all raving about the same book. I did some investigation and discovered that, by a truly remarkable coincidence, every one of the members happened to be a relative of the author. Sales must have been really bad.

Oh man, I don't think archiving the whole forum is at all an achievable or important goal, but actually I've always enjoyed a good tutting session in the Bad Behaviour thread. I might save that one myself for personal reference.

There's a 2 year old (9 days off the date) discussion about a funny gap in Lynette Theatre's scheduling that still cracks me up

My personal favourites have to include the entire Bend It Like Beckham thread, "how high is the stage?", "are there day seats" and the Level 100 fangirling on the Wicked thread around Cast Change season. Here's to plenty more on TheatreBoard!

She was a long long time ago, on ALL the message boards!
Personally, I enjoyed calling out a FoH girl at the Novello and her inside knowledge of EP and her show schedule on Drowsy Chaperone! She used her own name and was saying that the manager told her!

On the subject of Michael Ball but not entirely on the forum, there was the first public award vote where the Michael Ball fans rigged the outcome. WhatsOnStage corrected the result to remove the fraudulent voting, and the furious fans responded by claiming that Michael Ball still deserved to win because he was the only candidate so popular that his fans would go to all the effort of rigging the vote.

At the time, not knowing there was a Michael Ball lobby I once made a post laughing at Michael Ball. Whom whilst performing at the Proms invited the Royal Albert Hall audience to join him in the rousing finally to 'Love Changes Everything'. And nobody did.
I thought it was funny but I was informed in no uncertain terms that their has always been a snobby Proms atmosphere

Back in the far-off days of the old forum ... we had a member called Judyfan who was a highly enthusiastic fan of "End of the Rainbow" starring Tracie Bennett as Judy Garland. Literally posted about nothing else. On one of his or her many visits to the show, Alan Rickman was in attendance and failed to join in the standing ovation at the end. Cue massive rant on the forum from Judyfan - "WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS?? HIS FATHER WORKED IN A FACTORY FOR GOD'S SAKE" is the phrase that sticks in my mind although I may have misremembered the exact details. |

He only makes exceptions for children and the infirm. He used to sign them in the early days of HP though. |
