Good grief!
Who’d choose to listen to that foghorn of a voice for more than, say, 30 seconds at a time?

Good grief! Who’d choose to listen to that foghorn of a voice for more than, say, 30 seconds at a time? ...Um, me. And quite a lot of other people so it seems. She is an incredible performer, she's hustled and her riffs are clean / she put her stamp on a notoriously difficult song. Why insult, it is just plain rude, bitter and comes across so negative?

It’s a place to discuss performers and our opinions of their work.
It’s not as if I insulted her looks or her accent or her clothes or whatever. I just had a very visceral reaction to a voice I find raucous and ugly to listen to.
Far too many of the singers who do well on these sorts of shows now (the talent shows weren’t too bad when they started) seem to think all they need to do is turn up and blast out a loud song at top volume.
And if that’s what makes an audience whoop - then shrug, good luck to them. I’ll just stick with singers who can modulate their MT belt and put a bit of variation into their performance.

It's a place to champion theatre and performers, not personally attack. 'Foghorn.' I trained in musical theatre, I know how the voice works, thank you.

Burgundy, if you read this forum more widely (as the number of stars in your profile suggests you do), you will surely see plenty of far worse criticism than I made here of Ms Drew. You may be a big fan, but it doesn’t mean the rest of us have to agree. That way the world would be truly beige!
And, er, I never said or implied you didn’t know how the voice works...? I just said what I was looking for in a vocal performance. Again, you may look for something different. And that’s totally fine too!

It was a bit ‘one level’ wasn’t it? Theres no denying that she has a voice, and has shown in her work that she can do with it. Obviously she thought throwing a vocal powerhouse at the judges would get her through. Hopefully she will get to show the whole range of her ability as the weeks progress.
