Died at the grand old age of 93. He seems to have done very little stage work, in fact I might have seen his very last stage appearance in 1986 in the Alan Bennet play "Kafka's Dick" at the Royal Court.

According to the Times obituary what put him off stage work was appearing at the NT in J.B.Priestley’s “Eden’s End” which he found “terribly boring”.
