I can't see a thread for this series. I've just started watching it and I think episode 3 in particular, Take Me as I Am, Whoever I Am, is really worth a watch for people on this forum. It's very theatrical including some singing and dancing. Anne Hathaway is the lead as a young woman trying to find love while dealing with a particular problem. I'm going to spoiler the problem. if you worry about being triggered then please have a look. It wont spoil the programme too much. {Spoiler - click to view} She is bi-polar

I posted about it in the Streaming thread, I absolutely adored this series! It made such a change to watch something so utterly free of cynicism and each episode contained such warmth and hope. Also, the theme tune is magnificent! So happy it's been recommissioned!

Yes it is a really beautiful understated series!
The show is developed and directed by John Carney also - who’s musical films are a must watch in my opinion for theatre fans. There’s of course the famous Once but both Begin Again and especially Sing Street are fantastic movies.

I loved Once, liked Sing Street and was a bit ‘meh’ about Begin Again but I’ll give this a try. I’ve had Amazon Prime for the last month or so and mostly been watching a few Anthony Bourdain episodes now and then, apart from that I’ve tried watching Picard, Too Old To Die Young and The Man In The High Castle but I haven’t found much in any of them to make want to stick with them (I’m thinking maybe it’s anxiety from what is going on in the world that isn’t helping though)

You people have such good taste. I would never have watched this without this thread, but I am just wiping my eyes after episode one.

I liked some of the episodes but when it got to the last one ( no spoiler ) I fell completely under its spell and then watched them all again!

Just finished the series. A bit flawed but when it was good it was exceptional. It's nice to have such an, ultimately, uplifting series.
There aren't two disappointing episodes in a row so, if it's not working, wait 30 minutes and another comes along. The last part of the last episode was very very pleasing.
Oh and any 'hot priest' fans have a treat... with an American accent. Actually there are a shedload of brits in this.
Roll on a second series.

I clicked on Amazon Prime membership a few weeks ago by mistake when I was ordering something and my free trial runs out in 2 days time so yesterday I thought I would have a look at the TV part of the deal to see what there is. I was pleasantly surprised and, following comments above, I gave this series a go. Watched 2 episodes so far and really enjoyed them. Both episodes were quite uplifting which is just what you need at the moment. I also watched a film last night on there, cant remember what it was called but it starred Keira Knightly based on the true story of a GCHQ whistleblower during the Iraq war. Very good film and I found it a really interesting story. Also the lovely Janie Dee was in it. I actually think I will keep the Prime membership for a bit until I have watched a few more programmes and ordered some more tatt online that I dont need.

Amazon Prime delivery can be like crack cocaine!! You get so used to ordering things that arrive the next day (or the same day if you're lucky) that it is hard to give up.

I watched the first two episodes last night and really enjoyed them, although I wasn’t expecting each episode to be so self contained and a separate story: I looked at the cast list on IMDB and was a bit ‘concerned’ why no-one famous showed up in the first episode (I was thinking maybe I was watching the wrong show at one point 😝) Refreshing to be able to watch something good hearted, that isn’t dark and gloomy like so much contemporary tv drama is these days, I’ll try to watch more over the next few days.

Just watched episode 3 with Anne Hathaway. Loved the singing and dancing and even though the subject matter was sad it was still uplifting.

I've finished them now - 8 in all, about 30 mins a go. Not sure what to make of the last 10 minutes. Very *American* I guess. Amazon clearly threw money at the series.
Overall, somewhat variable quality but it never dropped below highly watchable.

Just seen that series 2 of this has appeared on Prime: it’s a lot lower key casting wise, Minnie Driver, Kit Harington and Anna Paquin being the only names to stand out looking on IMDB but I’ll give this a go over the coming weeks.
