I would imagine the next stage would be a try out, IIRC it was originally going to go to Toronto after the first Sydney run but then got postponed.

I might finally get to see this.
How weird that I will be sitting in a theatre on the other side of the world, seeing a show set in my home town!
I have the cast recording #youreterriblemuriel

I hope they fixed this, what I saw on stage in Melbourne was an embarrassment. The only moment that worked beautifully, {Spoiler - click to view} was the mother’s suicide stunningly staged and the song beautiful sung.

I wonder if the creative team will remain?

The cast recording was shambolic - completely forgetful.
Will attract the hen parties perhaps but count me out.

I think the film succeeded off the back of Toni Collette’s fantastic performance so whoever takes the role is going to have to go some to get anywhere close. Do I want to see a pale imitation? Not so sure.

Not so sure. I may have said this before, Toni Collette saw the show and highly recommended it to me. I saw the second production in 2019 with a new lead and loved it so much I booked a return visit. It does follow the film but makes a few different turns as it’s a stage show. This time I’ll order the personalized mug.

I've listened to a few songs on the cast recording and the original songs are pretty good.

The cast recording mysteriously vanished from Spotify etc, and there was a new workshop in NYC last year, so I assume it had some heavy rewrites.

You’re from Porpoise Spit! I'm from Sydney WireHangers, where Muriel escapes to and finds her new life. I know! I’m pulling your leg. I love Sydney, I used to live in Surrey Hills. My husband and I met on Oxford St where every great gay love story started.

Beautiful city. I was there for a month for Mardi Gras in 1998. I always thought it had a very cosmopolitan European vibe and a sprinkling of the best of the US all complimenting the down to earth Aussie attitude. I remember eating bugs and gyros and of course Kangaroo - delicious. Probably the best holiday I ever had.

I do like Sydney and I have relatives live just outside it but I prefer Melbourne. I lived in Melbourne for a few years. There’s no comparison between the two, Melbourne is a hot pot of art and culture and food and just about everything you want in a city. We came back to the UK due to my mother-in-law’s untimely death, had it not been for that we would happily still be there.

I was in both Sydney and Melbourne last November and loved both cities for different reasons. Sure Sydney has more iconic sights but Melbourne has so many plus points too.

I saw the original show at STC and I think it’s high quality and will fit nicely in the UK. Nice one!

The Shaftesbury is being programmed by Jamie Wilson as part of a ten year deal and I don't think he has any connections to this show
