So I saw this yesterday and am I the only person who thought this was a serious case of the Emperor’s New Clothes? It’s handsomely shot and it looks like Dafoe and Pattinson had a whale of a time (ho ho ho you might say after the mention of Ahab, in which case I say ‘well played to you sir/madam with an optional ‘aaaar!’ on the end ) trying to outdo each other in the jolly Jack Tar ‘aaaah matey’ stakes but I just thought there was far too much mumbling going on and it seemed far too much to be like a film students attempt to make something artful and impress their tutor: I was seriously disappointed by this and am classing it as the first dud of the year.

I thought it was an amazingly achievement, but I didn't find it a particularly enjoyable film. I couldn't help but admire the craft involved though. The performances were great and it was brilliantly directed and shot. I prefer The Witch though.

I'm not reading your posts yet because I really want to see it, but it's hardly on anywhere outside London, which is surprising and annoying - the only place it's on in my entire region is one screen at the city centre arts cinema (also one of the most expensive). I think it's on in two in Manchester - as far as I can tell, searching Odeon, Cineworld sand Vue's national listings, that's only three screens in the whole of the NW! I saw someone I follow on Twitter saying it's only on in one - again, a pricey art cinema - in their town Cardiff.

I'm so lucky the Broadway cinema here in Nottingham exists. £5 for me and they always have these type of indie films that I'm always eager to see. Check if there's any Pearl and Dean cinemas near you as that's the company.

Loved it... the black and white photography works really well...a very atmospheric and eerie movie which features two equally compelling performances. One of those movies that leaves you with more questions than answers and challenges your interpretation of the events and symbolism of the story.

No, haven't even heard of them, except as adverts when I was a kid! The horror festival preview screening in Manchester a few weeks ago sold out immediately so there is an audience here waiting for it.

Weirdly I think they're an Australian company. I remember their cinema advertising from when I was a kid.

I watched it and I loved it and I won't even make an attempt to give my theory on it but it was like a hyper-masculine and somehow more sexually charged Persona so what's not to love?

Just seen on twitter that Manchester's Home had 2nd the biggest audience for this in the UK, so there is obviously an appetite for it outside London! Cineworld responded to my tweet to say they're going to start screening it at more venues from Friday. .
