I’m surprised there isn’t already a thread on this film, unless I have missed it.

I have just got back from seeing LAST CHRISTMAS at the cinema, and despite the horrendously negative reviews, I absolutely loved it. I found it genuinely funny, laughing out loud at points, but then I was sobbing the next moment. I had tears rolling down my face at one point, which NEVER happens. I didn’t see the “twist” coming, and was somewhat breathless upon its reveal.

It is also refreshing that the film is not just your typical Christmas film, but has a social conscience, dealing with such themes in its slim 1 hour 43 minute running time as Brexit, Immigration and Homelessness. It’s overall message, like that of COME FROM AWAY is one we so need right now - that of kindness. Kindness to yourself, and also kindness to others.

I can only imagine that we will see LAST CHRISTMAS on stage at some point in the next few years as a jukebox musical with the hits of George Michael.

Ignored the negative reviews and go see it!

We absolutely loved this- sometimes a cheesy film is called for and this was just perfect!

I thought this was good and bad at the same time! Unfortunately I think too much was given away in the trailer so to me it was obvious what was going to happen. Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding gave great performances, though I thought Emma Thompson was horribly mis-cast. Nice to see Andrew Ridgeley in the scene at the end. Overall there was potential for it to have been better than it was.

I certainly commented after seeing it, in response to justfran 's post, but this was in "How Was Your Day" and back in mid-November, when the film was released:

"I saw it on Saturday. Bit lowbrow, but I enjoyed it, as I expected I would and though Curzon advertised it, they are only showing it in Oxford so for the umpteenth time lately, I had to pay to see a film with a different chain. So thank goodness for cheap tix with Vue. Agree that the release does seem a little early for a Xmas-related film but perhaps the distributors wanted (or expected to need) a long run-in to build word-of-mouth? Very healthy attendance for a late morning showing though not surprisingly, mainly female."

Not surprised as they have done this so much lately, but having deprived their London audiences of the opportunity to see this - though inexplicably, happy to show it at their regional sites - Curzon have belatedly programmed this at just one of their 7 London cinemas. I'm not proud and cheerfully saw it at a Vue instead.
