The Bridges of Madison County is based on the novel rather than the film so doesn't count. La Cage Aux Folles is also based on the original French play as they couldn't secure the rights to adapt the film version. I would add Kinky Boots, Hairspray and Groundhog Day to the list of critically acclaimed musicals based on films. Kinky Boots and Hairspray are good. But let's face it, they aren't groundbreaking. Groundhog Day, haven't seen it. Actually, nobody said they were groundbreaking. What were you saying about putting words in people’s mouths...?

What were you saying about putting words in people’s mouths...? Are you looking for a fight? Because that is how it seems. If you didn't like my comment, why not just move on? This forum is so toxic sometimes. I really do wonder why I bother.

Absolutely not, but you can’t express outlandish, controversial, and ill-supported opinions and not expect to be challenged.

Producers have cancelled the upcoming tour of My Best Friend's Wedding.
The show was set to star Alexandra Burke, but has now been pulled – though producers are exploring opportunities to revisit the show.
In a statement the team said: "The UK tour of My Best Friend's Wedding which was scheduled to open at the Palace Theatre, Manchester on 20 September, 2021 is, unfortunately, not going ahead. Successfully launching a new musical on tour is never easy, but continuing uncertainty and its hugely damaging effect on consumer confidence has made a difficult task into an impossible one."

It’s possibly not one I would have gone to, but this is sad. Probably won’t be the last, as some of these big tours were already struggling a bit before the pandemic.

This was obviously due to terrible ticket sales.. and easy to pin that on COVID , rather than it just didn’t appeal to enough people. And Burke is not a draw.
Still, it’s a huge blow and this would have employed a lot of people. A real shame

Still, it’s a huge blow and this would have employed a lot of people. A real shame “Burke is not a draw.” I suppose she was cast in Joseph for the lols? She was the best selling Rachel in the Bodyguard and the Sister Act tour she fronted was one of the best selling tours at the time. I am sure it’s a combination of factors- middling source material, zero word of mouth buzz as nobody has seen it, brand new show. COVID obviously has a significant role to play as there is a hesitancy to book ahead and a lack of trust in what govt will ultimately decide if further variants emerge. You are extremely naive if you think this isn’t the fate that will befall other productions.

I’m sorry but you could see this happening a mile off. Regardless of covid.
