For anyone interested as part of the musicals season at the British Film Institute (BFI) in London there is a talk about Sondheim in the Movies.
The blurb states the following:
Stephen Sondheim's 1957 Broadway debut West Side Story became a 10 Oscar-winning triumph, and is now being remade by Steven Speilberg.
From Gypsy to Into The Woods via Sweeney Todd, numerous other musicals by Broadway's leading musical dramatist have transferred to the big screen.
David Benedict, Sondheim's biographer investigates the highs and lows of Sondheim on screen and asks what makes a movie adaptation work.

Hmmm, when is Benedict's long promised biography out? Maybe for the 90th birthday celebrations. To LNM is v odd. Its never on telly, usually not a good sign!

I have "A Little Night Music" on DVD. The colours are odd, the movie is odder, but worth seeing. I do enjoy the movie version, even though it's a very peculiar adaptation. Dame Diana Rigg is a scream as Charlotte.
