(I know this is a few years old but couldn’t find a thread for it)
Wow. By turns dark, brooding, emotional, and at other points absolutely exhilarating. It seemed a great balance between the dancing, set, lighting and costumes. The narrative was, I suppose, confusing in parts, but it was a fantastic visceral experience. I’ve not seen a traditional version of this piece, so while I really enjoyed this I don’t know if the additional context would improve the experience.
This is probably not going to be for everyone, but the clips online give a good idea of the feel of it. So if you watch the trailer online and think you’ll like it you probably will. Definitely worth a trip to Sadlers Wells. I can’t wait for the upcoming new Akram Khan ENB piece ‘Creature’.

Yep, stunning. I was completely transported. I found the interpretive accessible and the spectacle spectacular.
Interesting observation: the woman on my right almost left at the break becasue it wasn't her thing (traditional ballet). The woman on my left, left at the break becasue it wasn't abstract enough for her taste.
It's causing me to re-calibrate a little how I see traditional linear 3-act drama. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Watched this yesterday with my daughter, we were watching the matinée at The Palace in Manchester.
I really enjoyed it, wasn't really sure what to expect and we did read the synopsis to help us along as I've not watched any versions of Giselle before.
Very dark, choreography was fantastic and wonderful dancing, particularly Giselles grief in act 1 and the pas de deux in act 2.
Orchestra was stand out. Large in numbers and enhanced all the emotions of the dancing. Goosebumps at times, could see them really well from the front of the grand tier.

I saw this at the Palace too, my second time of seeing it. I loved the music the first time which was my main inspiration for going - the score is fabulous and the orchestra were indeed stand-out. (Apparently it's available to stream, but I'm stuck in the 1990s and would prefer a CD.) It's been a long time since I've seen a 'classic' Giselle to compare but I do like this take on it. Very Handmaid's Tale.
