BBC Scotland have filmed six plays from the Play, Pie and a Pint series at Oran Mor in Glasgow (my old local pub) which are often brilliant. The first is this evening at 10pm and can be watched on iplayer.

David Maclennan who founded the programme is one of my theatrical heroes - as founder of 7:84 and Wildcat he started me on this expensive and fulfilling obsession that has stayed with me to date. Where I was growing up there really weren't theatres - but the touring productions would always come to my local sports centre and that's where I got the theatre bug. I always try to go to APAPAAP when I'm up in Glasgow - the sheer volume means it's become a remarkable nursery for new plays, new writers and new voices.
