Did anyone do the last one, Kabeiroi? It had some clever moments but was very very long, not quite up to scratch compared to some previous ones. Although I do still prefer the ones where I'm sent on a solo adventure compared to those where a thousand people are charging around a warehouse looking for something happening.

There were some great moments (walking tour around the Bloomsbury/British Museum slowly becoming surreal and eerie until the unexpected climax was one of my favourite Punchdrunk moments ever; and the storage unit bit was wonderfully creepy) but wandering around Tottenham Court Road finding numbers to call was just lame and by the time I was on the tube to Tottenham Hale I was losing the will to live. A mixed bag. I really hope whatever they do they don't overcrowd the next one because they easily could pack people in to maximise revenue and sell out night after night. But in most of the immersive theatre I've done what really ruins the experience is jostling around with crowds of people trying and failing to get a look in on the action. The atmosphere and immersion is also so much better with fewer people. |

Kabeiro should have been marketed (and priced) as an R&D project because that's clearly what it was. It has some good moments but also way too much downtime.
But I have high hopes for the new show.

Punchdrunk's new TV show starts on Tuesday on Sky Atlantic - was intended to be two short series with a vast live immersive experience between the two series. Obviously the immersive show, which was intended to have an audience of 2500, is not happening as planned but they are doing some sort of live performance in between the two series. All sounds very confusing but maybe it will make sense when watching. I'm a bit fixated with them as he is a composer including musicals and she is a dancer so i was in heaven. Anyway someone at the party worked for Punchdrunk and was talking about a new show that wasn't now happening so I'm guessing it was this. |

I am on a couple of Punchdrunk Facebook groups and the major fans there have dug out a job description posted for a new project due to start in the summer, starting in London (presumably at their base in Woolwich) before touring internationally.
