Most of the effects you're mentioning here are done by Paul Kieve (Ghost, Pippin, Matilda)
However - one of my fave tricks that he did is the unwrapping form from The Invisible Man.
The chalkboard scene in Matilda is pretty clever when you know how it's done (and it's not projections)

I don’t think we ever established how the underwater quick costume change was done in Bat Out Of Hell?

Does anyone know how they did the letter in Ghost that folded itself in Mollys hand? I could never figure that one out. I saw one show where it didn’t really work but that didn’t give anything away either... 🙈

I don’t think we ever established how the underwater quick costume change was done in Bat Out Of Hell? I think Falco’s costume was held together with magnets, allowing it to be pulled off with the other outfit already underneath, and Rob held his breath for the time he was in the pool They always had another cast member (usually Batfish) next to the pool in case there were any issues and he needed to be pulled out quickly. I was always impressed that he could sing straight after all that!

Not sure about costume but I think their was a strategic rock behind the water pool that was hollowed out to create an air pocket to let him grab a quick breath.

Another one was Mike Bartlett's Wild at Hampstead Theatre. I saw the twist coming a mile off. I did NOT see how far they would take the twist. But I watched it a second time when they livestreamed it and you could tell how it was done. Late to this thread but this is one I'm still trying to get my head around. Please tell me how it was done!

But I watched it a second time when they livestreamed it and you could tell how it was done. Late to this thread but this is one I'm still trying to get my head around. Please tell me how it was done! Oh no, the way I worded that makes it sound like I know for sure how it was done. Please bear in mind that a lot of this is just things I spotted when I rewatched it on the livestream. I think the key to it was the scene transitions. Each time the curtain was lowered they played incredibly loud Russian music to cover up work going on behind it. During the last of these I think two things happened. Firstly that the chair (or probably a sturdier replica) was fastened to the stage floor, and secondly that Jack Farthing was strapped in to a harness. In the final scene I think he used his hand furthest from the audience to attach the harness to the seat, while everyone's distracted by the other two characters dismantling the entire set. A lot of it is just hiding things in plain sight. There was no real reason to show Jack Farthing wearing only a pair of jeans with Calvin Klein pants showing underneath, other than as a version of a magician showing they've nothing up their sleeve. (A much sexier version mind, and one to keep the Poldark fans happy.) I thought the roatating set would have been done by using flies but thinking about it just now, do they have flies at Hampstead? I've only seen a few shows there and can't remember any of those using them. As for the final illusion, where Caoilfhionn Dunne sticks a pin in herself and explodes into confetti, errr...🤷🏻♂️
