Great memories...Was the giants room, the Borrowers or Mini-pins or summat similar?Remember being shocked that Corrie St itself was just frontages.Had two of my Drama students as extras in the show and went with them as chaperones.Bill Tarmey,Liz Dawn and Johnny Briggs were really friendly and welcoming to them and as young actors they were really star-struck.I also did a problem-page show with my students called Dear Davina with a very young Davina McCall and other events. If memory serves, the wonderful Liz Dawn had a pub called The Grapes (I think) near the studio with her daughter.

The Grapes, next to the Opera House has been demolished sadly.
it was a lovely place to meet up and have a drink before the show at the Opera House. But no more. I imagine ATG’s bar takings have gone up as a result.

Several decades ago when I were a mere whisper of a girl my dad took me and a chum on holiday up north and on the way back we stopped in Salford to visit my brother.
We passed Granada Studios in the car and my dad told me to get out and see if I could see the set. I got out and was a peering when low and behold PERCY was stood nearby!
“Are you paying to come in?” He asked. After I gave a monosyllabic nah he replied “Well f**k off then”!!
Made my holiday!

I remember going there for my 40th birthday. Night in Blackpool and Granada Tour on the way back. There were also a couple of theme park ride things as part of the tour. At the end you were taken into a room which had a 360 degree film show with highlights from corrie and at the end the door slid open and you entered the street. As a big fan I was in my element. I believe in those days they didn't film in the street every day so could open the street to the public and there was usually a cast member there to do a kind of meet and greet. I also went a few years ago when they reopened the street to the public as they now film in the new studios on Salford Quays. The street was much bigger this time with some of the side streets. I remember buying a mug the first time that played the theme tune when you picked it up. The spooky thing was that it would play the tune at random times even when not picked up. Think it was the ghost of Martha Longhurst.

The fronts of the houses were so small and the main window looking out onto the street was actually shared between two houses. They just filmed it from side angles so that you couldn’t tell. And I remember trying to peer through the net curtains knowing full well that there couldn’t be anything behind them, but still looking anyway.
There was a mock up of the rovers return aswell, where you could buy a drink but it had a big cafe attached to the back of it. And a House Of Commons set where actors hosted mock debates.
It was a lot of fun and very unique back when we had much lower expectations of how we should be entertained.

I lived in Manchester for most of 1981-97 and family members used to come and stay with me specifically to visit the Granada Studios Tour. So I went there more times than was sensible. Funnily enough I also lived in Birmingham for a couple of years which was also a popular move for friends and family who wanted to visit Cadbury World!

I remember going there as a child. I remember the House of Commons, the giants rooms and also walking down Coronation Street. I also have a vivid recollection of there being a Sooty show and because it was my birthday I got called up to the front to meet Sooty - only to be soaked by Sooty with his water pistol. Oh the memories ha ha!

Ooh yes, I went there while living in Manchester in the late 80s - I was so excited to see Alf's Mini-Mart and Baldwin's Casuals on The Street! Remember the House of Commons and Downing St too, and wasn't there a Checkpoint Charlie?

I got a Vera Duckworth shopping bag last time I was there. It normally gets a few odd glances when I'm in M&S doing my weekly shop.

I too have very fond memories of this. I went in 1998 and enjoyed all the other bits - 10 Downing Street, House of Commons, Borrowers but the main reason for going was obviously Coronation Street. At that point I was absolutely addicted to it; now I've completely given up on it and haven't watched it for years. As others have mentioned it was the fact that everything was actually two thirds life size but you could never tell when watching it on TV. I remember it cost £15 admission which I thought pretty steep but still worth every penny. I also remember that although the houses were just facades, with the interior scenes filmed in the studio, you could walk round the backs and see where the occasional back alley scene was filmed. It was actually chucking it down with rain the whole time we were there and they kept us waiting for around half an hour whilst they were finishing filming Des Barnes' funeral!

but there was also, briefly, that suspended roller coaster that nearly broke everyone's neck, and the limp Alien ride, that took you through all the discarded sets on the promise of a terrifying alien appearance. Not good.

Can you no longer do the Corrie tour? I know the set has moved but it was still open for visits not that long ago?
I'd also recommend the Emmerdale studio experience in Leeds. It's in a recreation set built especially, which obviously isn't the same but it's all tour guide led and explains how they do the filming, special effects etc. I don't really watch the show (!) buy found it very interesting. You can look around the actual set they use for the outside village bits too.

Sorry guys. It was overpriced and there was not much there. That is why it closed down. I remember being told on no account should I pay money to go inside. I went inside anyway for about 15 minutes.

I went on the tour when I was in Manchester to watch Kiss Me Kate (James Smillie/Kate O’Mara version) and loved it. It was December and in true Manchester fashion it poured down. I remember going around a corner to see a guy dressed as the Grim Reaper having a smoke,

Can you no longer do the Corrie tour? I know the set has moved but it was still open for visits not that long ago? I never did the tour, although my mum and friend visited after it was officially closed down and the security guard let them in for a look. Nowadays, they built the Manchester version of the Crystal Maze Live Experience there. I went when they were testing out the games and we went through a side entrance. You could see a small part of the Coronation Street set, but most of it had gone (and I suspect it's all gone now).
