Just came across this little tidbit in an article about director Mira Nair from Screen Daily:-
Other major projects on the horizon, she said, was a stage musical adaptation of 2001 hit Monsoon Wedding, which will open for an initial eight-week season at the Roundhouse in London on August 1 2020.
I remember the stage adaptation of this being mentioned on Broadway sites a while ago but now it looks like it's got some legs...

I've floated the idea a couple of times here, but love that next year Roundhouse will be playing the role of theatre again. Barber Shop Chronicles run there as well.

Glad to see it's going somewhere. There was a run at Berkley Rep a few years ago, and I read it was undercooked. It certainly didn't look good. Love the movie and its soundtrack.

YES! I was wondering what happened to this musical! I spontaneously saw this at Berkeley rep in the summer of 2017 together with an Indian friend (how perfect, right?) who knew about it and dragged me along. It was great! It is the most fun, heartwarming, lovely little story. Very vibrant and fun! Vibrant being a real keyword here, because it is so colourful! Great songs! Just a party on stage really! After I was completely enamoured by the musical I asked my friend if this was what real Indian weddings are like. Answer? Yes! and she really loved it as well! Now I need to make sure I get invited to an Indian wedding at some point in my life, because it looks like so much fun. Such a celebration of love. In the meantime though, I'll make sure to book tickets for this! Maybe I can even go multiple times! Aaarrgh! Such great news Can you tell that I love this musical?! So excited!

Rather steals Leeds Playhouse's thunder. It doesn't officially launch its new season until tonight!
Runs from 22 June to 11 July in the Quarry. General booking opens 9 December at 10am.

I'm undecided whether to take a trip to Leeds to see this first or wait for the Roundhouse run.
Never been to the Roundhouse, and there are big variations in ticket pricing between seats not that far apart, eg stalls row F is premium and costs £50 but some of row H is restricted view for £15. The front row, my usual preference, is £40.
Any views on the best value seating there ?

Here's an interview with Mira Nair about the musical:
Assuming optimistically that the production will indeed go ahead, at some point or other: it sounds promising in theory, but the (admittedly few) things I've seen and heard from its past productions and workshops have been less so. It'll be interesting to hear reports.

New dates for Leeds are Monday 21 June to Saturday 10 July 2021, then London from Friday 16 July to Sunday 29 August.
I've been trying to get into A Suitable Boy on iPlayer, which has the same director. I hope I enjoy Monsoon Wedding more than I have so far enjoyed that!

Strike the above! Due to difficulties in getting, "the award winning creative team together," the rescheduled dates have now also been cancelled.
Unlike last time, Leeds Playhouse has not offered the option of carrying my booking over, so it seems unlikely that the production will be any time soon.
