Some posters saw this at the BFI last year but I couldn't find a specific thread. Just thought I'd say this is in cinemas now and might be pushed out by Avengers next week, so I'd recommend seeing in the next few days if you can. I thought Jessie Buckley was stunning in it, and she sings a fair bit too. I've seen Jessie on stage a couple of times but her acting is even better in close up!

I was thinking of seeing it mainly because she's so gorgeous.

She is fantastic and I really enjoyed the film (I was one of those who saw it at the LFF last year). She came across as really down to earth in the post-screening Q&A as well.
I was glad to see her nominated for the Bafta Rising Star award this year (though with Letitia Wright among the nominees she was sadly never going to win), and I hope she continues to gain recognition and her star continues to rise. It should do given one of her next films will be the Renee Zellweger-led Judy Garland biopic!

I enjoyed this too. Some terrific performances. Would love to see a sequel focussing on the Sophie Okonedo character. Can't believe it is a decade since Jessie Buckley was on the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Nancy thing. Watching her grow up has been quite the treat.

I enjoyed the film - and would have started a thread for this and other films I've seen recently had I thought there'd be interest, but that's hard to gauge, so thank you, lou105. Beast is the only time I've previously seen Jessie Buckley in anything (had never heard of her until then), so it was interesting to compare the 2 totally different roles.

It's a good film but I did find the character of Rose-Lynn frustrating at times, Is that not the point though - she's very flawed. The audience can see why Julie Walters' character feels as she does, and it takes Rose-Lynn a lot longer to realise what she already has.

I’ve actually seen it twice now, and it was better the second time - I noticed more of the thematic stuff it was doing. First time I saw it was in the middle of LFF so possibly was a bit too cinema-d out to take it in properly.

I really enjoyed this film - I mean, honestly, Jessie Buckley singing country music? Basically tailor-made for me! - but I did spend the entire Bob Harris cameo portion cringing into my popcorn. I guess it was nice to honour someone who has championed country music in the UK for years, but a fictional DJ or even a non-speaking cameo would have been SO much less jarring.

I saw this on Sunday night and thought it was fab, I nearly started crying during the final song. Jessie Buckley and Julie Walters both wonderful.

Caught this today. Loved it, and thought Jessie Buckley was great. I've seen her in a couple of things (wasn't she on TV in War and Peace with James Norton?), and as Perdita in Branagh's A Winter's Tale. She is proving to be a very talented, versatile young lady.

The movie just opened in New York today, so I ran out and saw it in case it disappears quickly, having admired Jessie Buckley’s work in both Beast and The Woman in White. Agree with both Jon and @poster J about the character being both frustrating and flawed (“her own worst enemy”, as someone says in an early scene), but that’s what made her development by the end of the movie so satisfying. (Headline on the review in today’s Wall Street Journal: “‘Wild Rose’: Redemption Song”.) As an ignorant American, I had never heard of Bob Harris, so had to look at the end credits to see it he was played by an actor or “himself”.

I went to see Jessie perform songs from the show at a concert in Glasgow last night. She really is a superstar. She performed most of the soundtrack album plus six or seven covers of her favourite country songs. It was her first gig of a small tour (including a stop at Glastonbury) and you could sense she was nervous but that only further endeared her to the crowd who lapped up every second. She got quite emotional as she realised people were singing the words back (“This has never happened to me before!”) and almost broke down during the encore of Glasgow. Such a special moment to sing along to that with a crowd of Glaswegians.

Good to see that the song Glasgow from this has made the shortlist for best original song for the Oscars. Will be lovely if it makes the nominations.
