I’m such a wimp, I stick to well trodden routes in London. 'Sarf' of the river is a challenge. I do go to Stratford but I have somewhere to stay there. Chichester annoyingly too far.

The furthest I would have traveled specifically for a show is NYC ( from Sydney) for David Tennant in Richard II at BAM. It started as a joke among my friends at how far I'd go to see him, but the next day a very cheap flight offer landed in my in- box so I took it as a sign!
Domestically, most of the theatres I attend are in Sydney city itself, so about 40 mins train from home or 20 if walking from work. I'm a subscriber to the Sydney Theatre Company so go there at least 6 times in a year ( that's the minimum subscription package), and whatever else I can get last minute cheap tix to. Flown to Melbourne a few times for shows that haven't made it up here ( Once & John Barrowman concert). And I usually travel to the UK every year for a theatre heavy holiday, mostly based in London but also visit SuA most years.

2 hours one way, usually. By plane I live in Central Europe but I travel a lot for work so it makes things a bit easier - or more complicated, depending on the location... How often? It depends on my budget, I would say I visit the UK 6-8 times a year. I've tested all the budget airlines and all those awful airports located in the middle of nowhere (also probably most of the hotels near St Pancras). Motivation? I love theatre. That is all. I try to see shows wherever I am and I often enjoy them greatly but London is London. I think you get addicted at some point. Also, when I was a student, I thought I would never afford going to London for a week and watching a show or two every day. And here I am!

Great to hear from you all. Its funny like to travel further to see a show , it actually works out cheaper than me going to see one near home & I get to see a certain actor/actress, who don't tend to do the tour dates down where I live! Some of you travel soo far! i'm jealous wish I could! Totally agree about Bat, if it tours I will travel anywhere!!

I live about 10 miles outside Belfast, so it’s about 30-45 minutes drive from where I am to see a show in Belfast (depending on traffic thanks to new bus lanes the whole way there, it’s basically a single lane the whole way from my hometown to Belfast). 2 hours drive to Dublin, which normally happens probably on 2 or 3 times a year. An hour and a half flight from Belfast to London, normally every 2-3 months. 7 hour flight to NYC (flights from Dublin so plus 2 hours to get to Dublin Airport) only going for the 3rd time next month, my friend and I decided to do New York every 2 years. We went to New York last year so the plan was to go 2020. Then I went through a bad break up with my boyfriend back in November (we’ve got back together since), so next months trip was just booked to cheer myself up at the time.

Living in Coventry I would occasionally go down to London for a day or a weekend, mostly Miss Saigon Now I live an hour away from Central London, but have been to Birmingham & Southampton a few times for touring/regional shows (usually Miss Saigon), and in one extreme example went to Plymouth for a day (again for Miss Saigon) Last year took a trip to New York, and while I was there took a day each time to travel to Providence (Saigon again!) and New Haven for touring shows I wanted to see This month as well went on a mini break to Stuttgart for Anastasia and Hunchback What we need to take from this is I really like Miss Saigon, and I was cursed with living in the Midlands while it was in London but living in London once West End closed and it started touring

I usually travel in on SWT from Egham station. My closest station is Sunningdale but there is a road 30 seconds walk from Egham station with totally free parking (and usually lots of spaces) so that wins. Also there are 4 trains an hour into Waterloo with a journey time of 40 minutes. I think I'm really lucky arriving at Waterloo since most of what I see is at NT and ROH so it's really handy for those. Also the West End is easily walkable from there. I don't think I'd come in as much (more or less every week) if it were a different station.
I also go to Chichester, Guildford, Newbury (Watermill), Leicester and Sheffield.
