Sunday 14th July 1.30
I just want to alert ballet fans as to how good this is. I've been every year for the last decade or so. Virtually everyone takes part from the school (from the very young to those on the cusp of a professional career.) It's a great chance to see the Matthew Balls and Darcey Bussells of the future. You also get to see some unusual choreography. Last year there was a brilliant version of Britten's Sea Pictures which I would love to see in the regular repertoire of RB. The whole occasion has a festive and joyous feel.
Tickets go on sale online at 9.00 am 3rd April with top prices only £58. It sells out very quickly (lots of parents and family in the audience) and, for once, there's no priority given to Friends.

Although I always know I'm going to enjoy this it always exceeds my anticipations and so it proved today. I also think that the RBS have got better and better at putting together a really entertaining and satisfying programme that celebrates the wonderful talent (of all ages) throughout the school.
Today began with a sumptuous performance of Ashton's fabulously evocative take on Ravel's decadent La Valse, probably their best 'opener' yet and it (nearly) ended with Petipa's Paquita - showing the school's great classical strength. Other highlights were 'Untied, Undone' by Ashley Page to music by Mendelssohn with amazing virtuoso dancing from the older boys and very entertaining and wittily danced were David Bintley's Scottish Dances.
It's hard to single out the rising stars of the future with such amazing talent (hey, even the orchestra were inspired by the youthful enthusiasm to actually give a toss - rare during a ballet) but I would say look out for Hanna Park, Davi Ramos and Daichi Ikarashi.
As ever a fabulous, festive atmosphere prevailed and, as is now traditional, virtually the whole school perform in the final Grand Defile starting with the youngest (around 5 or 6 years?) ending with close on 150 dancers (I would guesstimate) at the end - a culmination, although hugely joyous and life-enhancing, I always find very moving.

Yesterday’s Summer Performance was as fabulous as always. Very definitely my favourite event in the whole ROH year (that includes both opera and ballet.) As always an amazing display of breadth of achievement and talent on display in many differing styles of dance. What a great idea to start with the (these days) the rarely performed Raymonda Act III; in this we got to witness an absolute star in Takumi Myake - he was technically gob smacking and just owned the stage in a way that only an experienced professional principle dancer usually does.
My other favourite was Yonderling; a funny and very touching ballet to the music of Stephen Foster - again full of charismatic performances. Message to Kevin O’ Hare: please put this in the RB repertoire asap.
Also it was great to see this attended by the the ballet greats of yore: Carlos Acosta, Darcey Bussell and Wayne Sleep.
