Hi, I thought it would be nice to post this here. It's some clips of the Dutch girl group "OG3NE", it's 3 Dutch sisters singing together; Lisa, Amy and Shelley. I just love their harmonies and thought some West End lovers on this board will like it too. I think they are extremely talented and musical. They are like a bouquet of flowers bursting into song Emotion: Magic: Hold On: Change will come: Dirty Old man: Want to want me: Un-break my Heart: Hold my hand: Just give me a reason: The power of christmas: Clown: And here they sing "Sing", with a style they invented themselves called "echoing", which is amazing in my opinion: Working my way back to you: Laughter in the rain: Stupid kind of lover: Lights and shadows: And a live version of "Change will come": And a fun experiment in a tv show singing the classical Schubert song "Schone welt" in their own style: Het is over: How deep is your love: The beautiful French song "Le Festin": Acapella: A whole new world: Happy New year: Alles is nog hier:

They were in Eurovision very recently IIRC And when they were young they were in, and I believe won, the Junior-version.

All it took was watching one of those videos for YouTube to decide that watching things in Dutch is what I do now.

As a coach in The Voice of Holland he's quite funny though. Cool guy, bad music.

They're a bit more like a Dutch Wilson Phillips. Without the famous parents. Or a Baldwin brother. Or the gastric band.
They also represented The Netherlands at the JUNIOR Eurovision Song Contest too back in 2007. Can you tell the difference?

I listened to three from the list in the OP. They're at best okay, at worst quite dull. They're skilled singers but the vocal style and the songs themselves are too blandly generic for me, and the voices quite clinical. But I recognise it as a type of stuff that's generally very popular. I'd be interested to see what the other good Dutch music is that was mentioned a few posts earlier if you can suggest any recommendations timothyd . I've no idea who Lil Kleine is but the photo above looks like everything about it has been carefully teased into place at a molecular level by a combination of software and business meetings. I've linked to here from a general music thread I started yesterday.

But I recognise it as a type of stuff that's generally very popular. I suggest you listen to the other clips as well (not only 3) because the songs are very diverse, they really are completely different styles and genres of music. "Le festin" has nothing to do with "sing" in terms of style, approach, genre, for example. The reason I like them is they are not generic but original in all of their musical choices. I still haven't been able to dissect some of their harmonies and I'm actually really skilled at it. Also, whenever they do a song I don't like, I am always surprised by some of their choices which are never the easy or predictable choice. Their voices are also very interesting, I found that the blonde has a very deep, smokey voice, the dark haired girl is actually the soprano and has a very clean and clear voice, the red head has a more breathy voice, but sometimes she does the soprano as well, sometimes they switch parts 3 times in 1 line, it really is something else.

You can say a lot about Og3ne, but their songs aren't that diverse imo. For me they all sound samey. But truth be told, I think they are good, but I'm not really a fan.
Backdrifter, I'm afraid that I'm not the best person to ask that, since I'm mostly into hiphop. But if you ask me, here some examples of Dutch music I like:
De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig: Anouk: Anouk: Blof: Doe Maar: Spinvis:
And my personal favorite, the late Maarten van Roozendaal:
And just for reference, Lil Kleine:
And one of Holland's biggest solo stars, Marco Borsato:

That is the cool thing about taste in music, it is very personal. I really believe it is all about what people recognize as beautiful. I also believe that certain factors while growing up play a very big part in this.
In the case of OG3NE many of their choices are so extremely musical and complex, that I really believe that it flies over some people's heads. It might be an unrecognisable blur for some who grew up with, let's say, only rap music, or rock.
To me, Lil Kleine is an embarrassment. I truly fail to understand why he even gets attention. He is an unintelligent kid who has a hit called "alcohol and drugs" and he speaks those words a few times and jumps up and down while doing it. Meanwhile he is in the media a lot, seen in fights with the police, audiences throwing glasses of beer to him, in interviews he says he only wants to be rich, etc. This actually has nothing to do with music. But maybe it just flies over my head because the way I grew up and my worldview and music view are formed by completely different things.

Og3ne just feels a bit too generic for me. They also remind me of the Blue Birds, another Dutch harmony group, which I'm also not that fond of. But I'm in the minority because a lot of people love them and love Og3ne.
Kleine hasn't been in fights with police, or not as far as I know. The last few years he cleaned up his act and is often talking about his personal life, his struggles and his love for Dutch music. I like him as a person, but his music doesn't do much for me.
