TheatreBoard.co.uk is an open and friendly community of people who love theatre. We welcome everyone who has an opinion or question about musicals, plays or some aspect of theatre-going. The forum is looked after by a small team of volunteers who are described as “admin team” or “moderator” in their profile. They are:
BurlyBeaR (to tag Burly please type @ admin without the space)
TallPaul (to tag Paul type @ pdc1 without the space)

You can contact any member of the team any time by PM.

Our aim is to support the theatre industry through open and constructive discussion.

If you break a rule or behave in a way that damages the open and friendly aims of TheatreBoard.co.uk then you may be warned, suspended or permanently banned.

The admins/moderators have the right to edit, delete, move or close any thread or post as they see necessary, without prior warning or discussion.

Moderation within TheatreBoard.co.uk is light touch. Please be forgiving and respectful of fellow members . However if you see a post or thread that you think breaks our rules please report it to the moderators by using the 'report' function. You can read more about how we moderate the forum later in this thread here.

Forum Rules
1. No spam or advertising in the forums. Limited non-profit activities are permitted via our Noticeboard feature. Posts which breach this rule will be removed and you risk an immediate ban

2. This is a family friendly forum, the minimum age of members is 14. Please bear this in mind when posting. “Not suitable for work” images, swearing or other adult content is not allowed.

3. Be mindful of copyright – don’t get yourself or the forum into trouble. As a general guide: Please don’t post clips from new productions, allow the producers to build their audience by marketing in the way they see fit. Please don’t post videos of entire shows (unless it’s a school or amateur production). If it’s a clip of a long running show where millions have already seen it, then you’re probably ok. Just put yourself in the Producer’s chair and imagine how happy you would be for your precious property to be broadcast to the masses. Admin decision is final.

4. Be respectful of your fellow members – we want to hear your opinions on theatre, your opinion of other TheatreBoard members is not required. Be courteous please.

5. Be respectful of theatre performers and creatives. Criticism of their work is allowed but hurtful comments on personal appearance, family or other matters deemed "private" is not. Criticism of child performers is off limits.

6. Bringing the forum into disrepute by any action including making comments which might be libellous, defamatory, or by deliberately misrepresenting what we do here will result in suspension or ban without warning.

7. Only one account is allowed. Members who create more than one account risk having their accounts deleted and the content removed without notice.

8. Papering is where free tickets to productions are distributed in order to fill seats. We don’t allow the naming of companies who are giving tickets away for specific productions.

9. We will not entertain “culture wars” discussions.

Frequently Asked Questions

In this section you can find various Frequently Asked Questions about TheatreBoard. If you have any more questions, feel free to post them in the 'Forum Questions' thread in the feedback section.

1. Can I have dots in my user name?
The actual user name doesn't allow any special signs (e.g. apostrophes, dots). However, your display name does. The user name itself will always stay the same, but your display name can be changed. To do so, click on Profile -> Edit Profile -> Personal. Please keep in mind that others might not recognise you anymore, so we'd appreciate it if you put your old user name in as status, which can be found under "Profile" - just as I did.

2. My user name starts with a lower case letter, but I'm sure I registered with a capital letter
That's done automatically when signing up; all user names are lower case only. However, you can change your display name to start with a capital letter. See 1.

3. I'm trying to register but experiencing problems
See www.proboards.com/forum-help-guide/registering for information on the registration process.
New registrations can take up to 24 hours to be reviewed and processed. Please do not register again during the 24 hour period.
If you don’t receive an email with your activation link check your spam folder. Please note that some registration requests are rejected for security reasons.

4. Can I add a list of all the shows I've seen in my signature?
No, long signatures can be distracting and interrupt the flow of conversation. We ask that you keep signatures to one or two lines maximum. However, there is a specific field available on your profile where you can enter your production history - then anyone viewing your profile can see the shows you have seen.

5. Can I publish a link to my blog/twitter account
Yes, you can add various social media accounts and/or a personal website address into your profile. These can then be seen by anyone who visits your profile. To add these, please choose 'Profile' from the top menu, press the [Edit Profile] button and add the details onto your 'Personal' and 'Social' tabs. You can also publish a link to your personal blog in your signature if you wish.

6. Browsing through a multiple pages thread gets me anywhere but not to the top of a page!
In a multiple paged thread, clicking on a number to go to another page will in fact get you to that page, but not necessarily to the very top (as expected). This is a known bug in this board software and only happens when using an adblocker, as the most commonly used adblocker (e.g. ublock, Adblock Plus) disable that functionality. To get this feature to work as expected, simply disable your adblocker.

7. How do I see what has happened since my last visit?
No problem. There's a "recent" button at the top of every page that shows you all threads that have recent posts, and any with new posts since your last visit will be highlighted with the "new" symbol next to them. Alternatively, you can click on the "participated" button to show threads that you've posted in or are tracking.

8. I want to get to the last post I read in a particular thread
Any thread or board with new postings will be shown by the square blue [NEW] icon on the left hand side. Against a thread, just click on this icon and you will be taken to the last post you have previously seen.

9. My emoji turn into question marks
The forum software doesn't support Unicode emoji, or anything else outside the basic multilingual plane. Use the smiley button in the post editor, or type sequences such as : ) directly.

10. How do I post a spoiler?
When using the full post editor (not the quick reply) press the button furthest right on the toolbar and you will be given a pop-up editor that allows you to add the spoiler text. Alternatively, if you are familar with tags you can type them directly or in the 'BBCode' editing tab.

11. How do I add a poll?
Polls can only be added by a member of staff. If you have a topic which you believe will be enhanced by a poll, please contact one of us.

12. How can I quote just part of someone's post?
Using a mouse, highlight the text that you wish to quote and then press the [Quick Quote] button that will appear.

13. How can I tag a user in a post?
You can precede a username with a @ symbol and it will be displayed as link (e.g. Michael ). The tagged user will be notified that you've mentioned them in a post. If it doesn’t work please visit the member you want to tag’s profile page. Tagging only works with the registered name, which may not be what is being used as the display name.

14. How do I complain about a post?
We hope that users of TheatreBoard take care not to insult other users and are tolerant of each other's little foibles. However, if you see a rule break, select 'Report this post' from the drop-down menu that appears in the top right hand corner of every post - the moderators will then be notified and will take any necessary action.

15. Can I get email notifications when threads are posted to\when I get likes etc?
Yes. Choose 'Profile' from the top menu and then press the [Edit Profile] button. You can amend your email notification settings on the 'Notifications' tab.

16. What do the member types/levels mean? How do you become a 'Star Performer'?
The membership levels are in place to give recognition to our most active and established members. However, we welcome contributions from all members and encourage 'lurkers' and new members to get posting - TheatreBoard is a friendly place! Members progress up the ranks from “in the wings” to star performer” based on post count.

17. How can I ignore certain users?

if you want to ignore a user, here's how to:

**note the instructions below are for the desktop version of the forum. They may not work with the mobile interface.

a, go to Profile in the menu bar below the banner
b, click on the Edit Profile button
c, go to the Privacy tab and scroll down to Member Block List
d, enter the member-to-block's name in the box, choose them from the pop-up menu and tick the appropriate boxes
e, if you want to ignore more members, continue with step d. Once you're finished, click on the Save Privacy Settings button

OR you can also ignore a member by clicking on their user name, then click on the small arrow down on the i button on the very right, choose Block Member, tick the appropriate boxes and confirm.

If you changed your mind and want to un-ignore a member, click on the small x next to their name in the Member Block List

18. How do I add a photo to my post?
You’ll need to post your pic on an image hosting website first, for example postimage.org.
When you have done that copy the link and click to reply in the thread, you’ll need to use the full reply option not the quick reply. Click the Insert Image button (it’s the right of the “mail” button) and paste in the link.

How we deal with reported posts and conduct issues.

Members sometimes become frustrated if they don’t see action being taken after reporting a post, or what they consider to be bad behaviour by others. Here are a few general things to be aware of.

If you see what you consider to be a rule break please don’t engage with it. If you tear a strip off the poster then report them what exactly do you expect the moderators to do? Tear another strip after you’ve already done it publicly? Unless a suspension or ban is merited you’ve pretty much taken it out of our hands. If you disregard this advice please do not be surprised if your report is read, but no further action is taken.

When you report a post please provide details in the box provided as to what you consider the problem to be. One word reports are unhelpful so please try to explain why you think the post is problematic. You will get an automated acknowledgement pop up which means we will see you report. Reporters will not usually be contacted by the admin team but please be assured that all reports made using the ‘report’ feature are reviewed by the moderation team.

Reporting a post does not guarantee that it will be removed or amended but does guarantee that it will be reviewed by more than one moderator.

We do not publicise what, if any, action has been taken against the reported member.

We operate a warning system where members can receive warning points up to a maximum of 100.

Points are awarded incrementally and if 100 is reached the member is banned. Sometimes a member can be banned immediately, without warning points.

We do not publicise the warning or banning of a member.

Members who have points but then delete their own account will, at the moderators discretion, have the points reapplied to their new account if they decide to re-join.

Only the member themselves can see how many points they have, their warning level appears under their avatar.

We discourage discussion of members who have left the forum because they no longer have the power to reply.

Finally, we discourage conflict between members on the forum. Please do not respond to bad behaviour with equally bad behaviour (insults, name calling etc). Our rules ask that everyone is respectful to fellow members, this stands regardless of what might be perceived as bad behaviour by someone else. Please report it and let the moderators deal with it.
