On January 7th the AEA, (Broadway Actors Union) called a strike against shows that are in a Lab, workshop, and concert reading over contract disputes. This only effects shows that are currently in development and not heading to Broadway in the near future. The strikes main issue is over profit sharing. The new developmental contracts signed in 2006-2007 created the lab. The lab is more of a staged reading the workshops and where actors are only paid to do the Lab and nothing else. Workshops is a reading and the actors who were a part gets a cut of the shows profit once it goes to Broadway over the course of 18 or 20 years. (I don't remember) Only a few shows who did labs are now offering profit sharing to the actors who participated into getting the show to Broadway. (Frozen, Mean Girls, and Hamilton) The AEA wants all shows to offer profit sharing if the show makes it to Broadway and they did using a lab. I tried by best to describe what is happening but, i'm not the best, here is some extra resources if you want to read more. The Broadway League, who represent the producers, have not put out a press statement concerning the strike yet. Once it does I will add the link at the bottom. Playbill ArticleAEA Developmental Lab StrikeAEA Do Not Work List Could anybody tell me why the Old Vic is on that list? Why would they be developing shows using the AEA contracts?

For what it's worth, at least one show in development is back on track:
