I'm feeling very uninspired by what's on offer that I've found so far, and the only think I have booked to see is Company, next Saturday.
I don't go to the theatre as often as many of the people on here, as I'm on a budget and getting old and tired (and jaded). But I'd like to go to see something every few weeks or so if possible.
I'm in Derbyshire, a few miles from Sheffield. I can obviously get to Sheffield easily, as well as Derby, Nottingham, Leeds. The Lowry is doable for a day trip, as is Cambridge and obviously Stratford. I drive, if that's relevant. London matinees are doable every so often, but I need to book well in advance to get affordable trains. I like driving though and I like finding new theatres I don't know in nice towns. I prefer day trips to overnighters, by a long way.
I tend to prefer plays to musicals, although I know some of my absolute favourites have been musicals.
Things I've loved in the last few years have been: Six Nell Gwynn the Michelle Terry/Ed Bennet Love's Labours Lost/Much Ado the Tamsin Greig Twelfth Night The Nap Mary Stuart Crucible Annie Get Your Gun
Things I've really liked: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Galileo at the Young Vic Girl from the North Country Death of a Salesman at the RSC Madness of King George
Don Quixote
Things I've not enjoyed: Julie that Pinter with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart Kiss Me Kate the most recent RSC Macbeth, Hamlet, Merchant of Venice The Cherry Orchard (Royal Exchange)
Uncle Vanya (Sheffield)
I like Shakespeare, but prefer the histories to the tragedies. I've seen enough versions of most of the comedies to keep me going for ever now, unless something really special comes along. I've enjoyed all the Tennessee Williams I've seen so far, and the Brecht. I've not enjoyed the Pinter or the Chekhov I've seen so far.
I don't really know what I want! Help!

In my eyes, the number one show to see next year, is Come From Away.

In my eyes, the number one show to see next year, is Come From Away. But based on what the OP says they like...I don’t see a lot of new musicals on there and so I wouldn’t really be confident recommending that. Yes, Six is on there, but I wonder if that that might be more related to the subject matter. Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Bridge? Anthony and Cleopatra at the National? Both look like big Shakespeares and it might be worth looking at them based on your enjoyment of Twelfth Night.

For Manchester -
Home I’m Darling (Lowry). Saw it at the NT. Really enjoyed it. The Producers (Royal Ex). A definite must see. West Side Story - with all new choreography!
It’s worth having a look at the Hope Mill Theatre programme. A lovely theatre that has put on some great productions. Tickets not too expensive either.
Liverpool -
Sweeney Todd will be on at the Liverpool Everyman.

Thank you!
I hadn't heard of Come From Away, but I've had a look at their website, and while the concept sounds fairly interesting, the trailer doesn't do anything for me, and there isn't enough to make me interested.
I have wondered about the Bridge, definitely, as I liked their Julius Caesar in the cinema. I've seen a lot of Midsummer Night's Dreams over the years, but I'd be up for another perhaps, depending on casting. I somehow don't feel particularly enthused about another Antony and Cleopatra very much, but it's a maybe.
I definitely want to see The Producers - it sounds like it has the utterly bonkers-ness which I loved about Six and Nell Gwynn. There aren't many seats left on days I can do though, and no pairs that I can find, but I'm definitely going to keep looking. I'm definitely not interested in West Side Story though as I dislike the film. Not keen on what I've heard of Sweeney Todd either, so that's a no. I'll keep an eye on the Everyman though, because it's a theatre I don't know.
I've heard a lot about Home I'm Darling, but didn't realise it was touring, so I'll investigate that, definitely.
Off to check out Hope Mill now.
Sorry, I know I sound quite negative!

Along the Royal Exchange line of thought, Hobsons Choice could be good. And along the Manchester line, Richard III is at Home later in the year. I've seen some very interesting theatre at Home in the last 6 months so would recommend thoroughly going through their listings.

It would need to be a Saturday, preferably an afternoon because then I can get the train. If the banquettes are the little couches then yes, but I can't see any tickets for them.
I'll have a look at Home, never been there. And I do really like Richard III.

Home is a brilliant space. Very close to Manchester Oxford Road train station, but walking distance from Piccadilly. Banquettes are the little couches yes. They're only available as day seats though so it could be a little risky booking a train and leaving it til the day to book. You can book by phone though.

Oh I see. Hm. That could be doable I suppose. Are they good value?

How about Rutherford and Son at the Crucible. The Guardian had that today as one of their theatre picks for 2019

I've booked for Rutherford and Son (in Sheff). I LOVE Roger Allam though, so I'm very tempted by the National version, but I have no idea what the play is about or like, so it's a bit of a way for a risk, so Sheffield is a lot easier. And one of the actresses in it is the sister of someone I used to know on a forum many years ago, so that's pretty cool too.

Meh. I got all excited when I saw this in case someone had something to recommend, and then I realised it was my own thread! I have nothing more booked this year, and there is nothing coming up that I want to see so far. I have some concerts booked (kd lang, Little Steven, Prophets of Rage) but no theatre at all. I have zero enthusiasm about anything.
I saw Rutherford and Son in Sheffield (yawn!) and have no desire to see the London version.
I did see Apollo 11 yesterday, that was excellent.
