In conversation with Edward Seckerson and featuring performances from John Owen Jones and Eva Noblezada, on Sunday 2 December 2018.
Composer Claude-Michel Schönberg sits down with writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson to discuss his journey from songwriter/record producer and singer – he had a number one hit in France with his song Le Premiere Pas – to the stages of the West End and Broadway.
In a rare public encounter – illustrated with recordings and live performances from West End stars John Owen Jones (Les Miserables) and Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon) – he talks about how his “Rock Opera” La Révolution Française set him on the path to Victor Hugo and Les Miserables and how a single photograph from the archives of the Vietnam War prompted a dramatic new take on Puccini’s Madam Butterfly. He talks about the elusive process which triggers the melodies, his love of opera and ballet, his continuing quest to breathe new life into perhaps his greatest score, Martin Guerre.
Saw this while checking The Bridge for the AVVVDM info and bought a ticket. Today, natch, got an offer for 25% off tickets in the next 48 hours, quoting LESMIS25.
Hope someone will find it of interest.

Don't know if anyone else caught this last night (from a just half full audience I'd be surprised), but it was a lovely evening! Such a lovely man, intelligent and thoughtful. The interview was handled very well by Edward Seckerson, two performances by John Owen Jones - Bring Him Home and Martin Guerre, Eva Noblezada sang On My Own from Les Mis, and I Would Give My Life For Him from Miss Saigon. Tracks played from Les Mis (the powerful Do You Hear The People Sing, which he said took him 2 weeks to sort the "car crash" of everyone singing together), from the opera Wuthering Heights; a french pop song - said he'd written something like 800 pop songs -?-
Lovely evening.

Fab evening, indeed. Hugely engaging storyteller in Claude-Michel himself, a deeply interested interviewer, and stunning performances. Glad I caught it.

He’ll be mortified you think Wuthering Heights is an opera, especially given the amount of time they spent revering Bill Brohn. I thought they wasted time playing recordings instead of talking. You can do that in documentaries but this was a fan audience. That and Eva and the pop pianist buried On My Own, which was a real shame.
