Or, 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City' to give it its full title. By Haley Feiffer and starring Cariad Lloyd. From the 2nd to 27th October. Booked for the first week at special preview prices. Won lots of awards and plaudits in America and this is the European premiere, though I'll admit I booked mainly on the basis that I adore Austentatious and I like to support each member's solo endeavours. www.finboroughtheatre.co.uk/productions/2018/a-funny-thing-happened.php

Well I saw this last night and all I can say is that if you can still get hold of a ticket, then do. By turns very silly but also painfully poignant, the characters are well fleshed out over the 80 or so minutes and there are some cracking jokes along the way, highly rccommended! Also Finborough Theatre is a lovely little space above a pub, intimate without feeling cramped.

Tempting, but I hate the Finborough and the trek there. Had so many bad experiences that I've given up going.

That's a shame. It's such a wonderful, flexible space, and their work is astonishingly good a helluva lot of the time: much more so than a lot of larger venues one won't name .... LOL.

Not exactly a trek. It's a ten minute walk from the Earl's Court tube station.

When I say "trek", I'm talking about my own journey, as even if I've come from somewhere else in London, going home from the Finborough means 2 tubes and a main line train - or two. So as multi-stage for me as going, for instance, to the Arcola in Dalston or the Kiln in Kilburn. No doubt great if you live on the doorstep or even in London but not for everyone. Also nowhere in the area to kill time if you arrive early and are not a pub person. I've even been reduced to sitting in Brompton Cemetery but that only works in daylight and reasonable weather.

I like Cariad Lloyd (her Griefcast podcast is excellent) - I miss the days where Finborough was under a tenner, though.

TY and I do know; what I meant is that there's no equivalent of a theatre foyer where you can sit, under cover, and read, etc, without spending money or taking up a seat to which someone else is more entitled. Plus, as drinking any sort of fluid leads eventually to the need for a comfort break, have you seen the loos at the Finborough? Revolting!

Hi all, No equivalent of a foyer I'm afraid, but we are a pub theatre. The official announcement is coming soon when it's all completely finished, but the Finborough Arms pub has just been taken over by a new pub management and has been extensively refurbished including a new paint scheme inside and out and refurbished and repaired toilets downstairs. We'd love to lower the ticket prices, but it's just not feasible without substantial funding. All best, Neil

I love Cariad (pun intended) and I’m sorry I can’t get there for what looks like a really interesting piece.

All best, Neil Will the refurb include not massively underestimating the size of your patrons' posteriors when you calculate how many people can fit on a bench? I spend most of my visits with one cheek hanging off the edge! Apart from that I love you though. As a beer-lover, I'm very fond of the pub and pub theatres are my favourite theatres. Now I think about it, the beer and the posterior size may be linked.

Afraid the refurb is just for the pub for now as that's a separate business to the theatre. Again, sadly, it's just money with the seat numbers - with more funding, we'd love to provide more space, but till then we also need to stay open! Also, re the foyer space, do remember the house always opens 30 minutes before the show (except on previews)so there is somewhere to sit if you fancy it.

I have to say I found the pub very friendly when I waited in there a few months back. Reasonable drink prices too. Yes I’ve waited there alone and felt perfectly comfortable, and I’m not a “pub person” especially. FOH are also happy for you to loiter out of the way but near their desk so you don’t feel like “taking up room” in the pub. And as the theatre themselves say you can sit down quite early too. I love the Finborough. So much so it’s on my “wish list” of places to have my own work performed!

Thought this was a great play, well worth watching
Toilets are horrible though, esp as it was flooded on Sunday when I went...
