Sad to see that the mezzo-soprano Joyce Blackham has died. She was a stalwart of the old Sadler's Wells Opera and her Carmen was memorable.
She was also superb as Preziosilla in The Force of Destiny at the Coliseum. Not only did she sing well but she had great stage presence and created some very vivid characters with her acting.
And she was glamorous too, and liked to show off her natural attributes, for which reason we used to call her Joyce Bosom – but only in the most appreciative way!
