For me personally, any new theatres should be using the Bridge theatre as a template on how to get the design of a theatre spot on. Large foyer area, plenty of loos, comfy seats with great sight lines from all areas and an AC’d auditorium. You can’t fault it.

I sat in Row B in Gallery 3 in a centre seat for Allelujah. I thought for £25 which I thought was good value. You only got the very top of the set cut off.

Tesco Metro principle being applied to theatres? I really don't think London needs another big one, especially in an era when writers and actors are being lured into longform TV. What it does need is improved facilities to existing 19thc ones, disability access to studio / pub venues and the like.

As is usual, I presume the inclusion of a cultural facility of some sort was a condition of the planning application for the major lucrative development this sits under. Same applies to all of the other new London theatres currently under development (with the possible exception of the Boulevard) and to the Bridge itself. The success or otherwise of the theatre is irrelevant to the profitability of the development as a whole.
Not much more detail in this article than the original announcement, although it does give a projected opening date of 2021 which is new.

They might focus on upping their game at the Bridge rather than franchising across London. The track record at their current address has been lamentable for the most part, with three of the worst new plays in recent years. Maggie couldn't have come along a moment sooner !

Without meaning to rain on the two Nicks' parade, I also wonder if they will be over stretching. Sourcing good content for two new venues could be challenging.

Well they've got a couple of years to sort out the programme. And the KX venue will be quite considerably smaller, 600 seats compared to 900 at the Bridge. I wonder if they're finding the Bridge a challenge to fill consistently - it's like having the Olivier without the fallback of the Lyttleton, so if you get a duffer (and they've had a few), then there's nothing to fall back on. They could use these two spaces in a similar complementary way, putting something more experimental in one with a crowd-pleaser in the other, so as to get a more consistent income flow. But we don't really know the financial deals behind these theatres, when they need to be profitable and to what extent given the developers' subsidy. But overall I agree, I was very excited by the Bridge when it was announced, but I've found it a difficult theatre to love.

As a theatre fan I definitely welcome a new modern venue, that will enhance London’s theatre real estate portfolio.
Theatre is prime cultural institution that rejuvenates an area, brings in restaurants and shops that brings in housing developments, which can bring in businesses.
As for the artistic problems, I found Alys Always brilliant and a German Life to be rather good, then again for the people who were underwhelmed the 2 Nicks do have the contacts to bring in quality entertainment, they will get something where the stars will align and it will be a smash. They have never done a musical as yet, that also could run a long time.
