Tom getting an honour isn't an issue but a CBE seems quite weighty, he hasn't won an Oscar or anything yet. I'd have said an OBE would have been more suitable at this stage of his career.

Surely it's long past time for Sir Michael Crawford?

Is it? has he really done all that much since the 80s aside the occasional role here and there. he has had a few high profile roles in his career but he never seems to be consistently working.
If he gets one then it should definitely be time for Sir Michael Ball and Dame Elaine Paige. Love or hate them they have had stronger careers and been champions for theatre
Imelda Staunton must be approaching Dame status within the next decade
And a bit away from theatre I think in next 5 to 10 years Kylie Minogue should get an honorary Damehood. She's lived here for decades, higb profile career, from a commonwealth country and I think has been involved in charity work (Princes Trust?). If Julie Andrews and Angela Lansbury can have one who, great as they are, haven't exactly embraced their British routes during their career. then Kylie should get something

Kylie M for an honour? She should be so lucky. Though I suppose it’s better the devil you know on a night like this.

Surely it's long past time for Sir Michael Crawford? Apart from a very distinguished stage and screen career, Michael has also done a lot of charity work for well over 30 years. This was mentioned in his CBE citation in 2014. Surely his knighthood cannot be far away, he is 76 years old now so has had a career stretching well over 50 years and 30 years plus charity work to his credit.

Surely it's long past time for Sir Michael Crawford? How he hasn’t yet received a knighthood for his work both in the industry as well as for charity truly is a mystery to me as well.

That actually never occurred to me. Having had a quick look on Wiki, there are a fair few people who turned down various honours for one reason or another.

But I am thrilled for Marianne Elliott. And that her statements about it are about building up other women in the industry. Like when Sir David Hare said he was accepting his knighthood from Tony Blair not for himself but on behalf of the whole of theatre.

Some performers were very happy to accept honours but not those which gave them a title before their name - Alistair Simm, Robert Morley and Paul Schofield spring to mind. So possibly Michael was offered a knighthood in 2014 and he requested that he take a lower honour, probably not likely but possible.
