I saw the production at Jermyn Street a few years ago & thought it was a reasonably good piece but not amazing enough to tempt me to travel all the way to Manchester. Having just had a look at the Hope Mill website they don't seem to have announced any casting yet but I find it hard to imagine they'll be able to match the London cast, which included Laura Pitt-Pulford, Zoe Rainey & Michael Matus.

I don't get this obsession with musicals about WWI&II. Yes, it's historically significant but the British musical cannon is flooded with them. Mrs Henderson Presents, Betty Blue Eyes, that gay soldiers musical.. oh, and it's about not one, not two, but three women singing about how their entire life revolves around this guy?

So they've got to make £377 every day for the next 26 days to hit their target.

“We need the funds by the start of the production on 9th september in order for us to continue to produce high production values, pay our performers within the Equity Fringe Guidelines.”
They did this for Hair if I remember correctly and I commented at the time that it seemed a bit late in the day. £10k in about 3 weeks seems like a stretch. What happens if they don’t make it? Show cancelled? Or low production values and minimum wage commitments get dropped?

There were adverts and leaflets last night for this. I don’t get it. Is the show going ahead or not? If they don’t have funds for it, how can they ask for ticket money? And if you donate to the crowdfunder thing, and they don’t get enough, is your money lost or do you get it back?

I reckon it will go ahead either way but with some compromises on the production and how they pay the performers if they don’t make the target.

So you’ll get your money back if it doesn’t hit 10,000. But I’m confused too. Funding doesn’t close until after the run has started, I know the show is in rehearsals right now etc. So if it doesn’t make it what do they do? As the costs of set, rights, creatives etc will all be spent, and it is just the running costs which I’d thought ticket sales would cover anyway, so no point in cancelling at that point as the cash is already spent.

So they'd reached two-thirds of their goal 2 days ago, and then they suddenly raise over £3k?
I wonder if they just put their own money in at the last minute to stop losing the entire lot.?

This is a solid production, championed by a very committed, hardworking cast of 5. No weak link among them. The music is pleasant; ranging through some nice dittys, some forgettable and some powerful songs. Although lyrically it didn't make much of an impression. I'm obviously not in the target audience for this as the +50s were lapping up the older references most of which went over my head and I found it hard to connect to any of the characters (which for me was more an issue with the source material than delivery) but its good to see HMT championing more new writing. Naughty, naughty creatives however. Putting a baby grand piano up stage centre, tricking me into thinking they had upped their game. It was a dummy for an electric keyboard. Completely justifiable from a sound point of view, control etc, but got my hopes up for something different.
