Why did Aladdin not work in London? It'll have done 3 and a bit years by the time it closes, that's on par with Mary Poppins's original run and longer than Beauty and the Beast's 2 and a half year run. Still a good run and not a failure in the slightest.

Yes but the lion king is the exception not the rule. Mega long runs really are only a relatively new phenomenon and are few and far between. A three year run is very respectable and not a failure.
Maybe a bit disappointing to what they wanted but not a patch on the disappointment of the previous tennants run.
Aladdin is done all around the country every Christmas, including with full flying carpets, so this mainly had nostalgia going for it. I am surprised they are closing without seeing what the new movie will do next year in terms of helping sales

Why did Aladdin not work in London? Because British audiences want something better than a glorified pantomime. Lion King provided this by taking the original, developing it and doing something different with it making it unique. Aladdin threw some glitter at itself and ran for it.

I’m here to ask the same question as the previous poster. Been doing a bit of Googling and the suggestion was that it would be released January or February 2021 on Disney Plus. Anyone got any more Details?

Beauty and the beast, Mary poppins are two very specail musicals to me as beauty was my first ever musical and Mary was the first show I saw at the WMC on its first uk tour. And the Frozen saw it on broadway last year i loved it my first Disney show on broadway. Lion king is just phenomenal circle of life brings tears to my eyes each time I watch it, and Aladdin very pantoish Trevor was the star of the whole show for me. I’m excited to see if they do bring Hercules or enchanted to broadway as there one’a I desperately want to see be made into musicals...

What about Tangled as a full stage musical?
Or (finally) bringing either AIDA, Tarzan or The Little Mermaid to the West End?

I know it's been mentioned before, but what about Moana?

I know it's been mentioned before, but what about Moana? Obviously take it with a grain of salt, but from what I've heard -- apparently the Disney creatives would love to make it happen, however they're not going to bring it to stage unless they figure out how to do the water effects (seeing as the water is pretty much a character in the film in its own right). Plus, I imagine they're extra wary after The Little Mermaid flopped on Broadway, so they'd need to get it right this time

Aidaaaaaaaaaaaaq’ I ADORED this show on Broadway. Saw it three times! I too saw it on Broadway with the original cast back in 2000 and it was the one of the several show that, to this day, still stands out. I still have the original cast recording as part of my i-Tunes library.

I understand it was expensive to produce?

2000? Wow, time really flies. I love the score, love the visuals and would love to finally see it. It needs to be lavish when it finally hits...no Stagedoor functional production opening at the Exeter Northcott...I’d love to see it in the Coliseum, even if it’s for a limited season before going on a big house tour. In terms of casting I think Tom Francis has everything we need for Ramades, and the young lady who’s name I forget who has played Aragon for ages in ‘Six’; maybe Lauren Drew for Amneris. Failing that some fantastic newbies we are yet to have been exposed to.

And well, Tom Francis was incredible as Roger, but he's wayyyyy too young and weedy for Radames, who's supposed to be a great military commander / general / leader of the Egyptian army / shirtless half the time. But one thing Aida has never been and that's lavish - which I think might have contributed to its downfall as people just expected more spectacle. These days where everything is downsized, reduced and cheapened, I don't see them going the other way with this. I also don't know if the Coliseum is a good place for it, seeing as it's the home of ENO, so many will expect the opera version. Best just put it into a mid-sized West End theatre.

Firstly: wanting to ogle a performers naked torso for two hours is not sufficient reason to cast them. Andrew would sound amazing and I’m sure would look appealing for you too...I totally forgot about Steers...of course her.

Nah, Andrew is too young and weedy for Radames too, even if he'd sing the sh*t out of those songs. I think it's time the delightful Bradley Jaden got to play a plum new leading part... right age, right voice, right sixpack. Okay, I'm outta here...
