I don't understand why regional productions aren't taking the opportunity to tour here or have a brief residency. I will put my hand up and say I have no idea how much these things cost!

Both the Palace and Prince Edward are being refurbished before their new shows come in so it's unlikely a filler show would come in anyway and the New London is only dark for s few weeks and I suspect needs a sprucing up as well before Show Boat

Interesting one here, on theatre being empty for refurbishment and obviosly the theatre owners take advantage of a theatre being dark to do this. heavens knows why the Prince Edward needs a refurbishment.
I assume Her Majesty's Theatre has been refurbished since 1986, so i wonder how they do this with keeping the theatre still open?

Something big being announced tonight and on sale tomorrow but no idea what (yet- assuming Baz is announcing tonight) and not sure where it's going and if it's a play or musical!

The Apollo Victoria is being done gradually. They closed off the bar for a while whilst they built a new one, have had their carpets all re-done recently, and I believe are gradually replacing the seats throughout the theatre (I couldn't tell you for definite as I haven't been there for a few months).

When I was at the Apollo Victoria in January, the seats were new then. I didn't really notice that they were new, as I don't go there often enough to take that kind of thing in, but there was a little display about in the bar with pictures of the old, differently coloured ones.

The AV had a big refurbishment about a decade ago before Wicked opened, I guess ATG decided it was time for another refurb. I assume the new seats for the AV are the same as the one that were installed at the Fortune and Prince Edward which have Probax technology

The article seems to be implying that because a number of theatres are dark, there is some of financial crisis in the West End when in reality, it's not the case. All these theatres will have shows going into them and the money lost by being dark will be more than made up when they reopen especially in the case of the Palace and Prince Edward.

This is a very interesting topic. I too am surprised as to why some regional shows don't go into a dark theatre to fill the gap for a couple of months. However, I can see the reasoning behind the decision if the theatre is only dark for say a month as there isn't really a point of moving in then just to move out in a few weeks.

Yeah I know that. Producers are probably unsure whether to risk bringing in a show for a month or two just to fill a gap in a theatre, there have been lots of gaps in theatres recently. Regarding Lady Day, I would be surprised if a new show filled that gap due to the short notice, if anything happens it will probably be PPT extending by a month if the ticket sales are good |
