I have a huge box of programmes and brochures that i have collected over the years. They are in a big box at the bottom of the wardrobe and i haven't looked at them for a very long time.
I will soon be moving to a new place. Do i take them with me or chuck them out? I dont really want to throw them away, but if they're just taking up space in the bottom of a cupboard, why bother taking them?? It's also damn heavy to lift and carry.
Any alternative solutions? A big piece of art using the covers??

If you’ve got the space for them then I would say keep them, as you might regret throwing them out later. It’s always nice to look back on shows you’ve seen or remember where your recognise a certain performer from. Good idea about doing something with them on display - how about putting your favourite covers in frames?

I love looking back on my programmes. I do it very rarely - maybe once every few years. But every so often, I tip them all out and look at them and reminisce and really enjoy it.
My aunt has boxes and boxes of programmes from the 50s and 60s, which she enjoys too.
Definitely keep them!
Although having said that, I love the idea of a large artwork! Like the room in the RSC Play's the Thing tour - wallpapered with programme covers.

I love looking at old programmes and finding I actually saw actors before they were famous or realising I have seen people on stage I couldn't remember and other bits and pieces. Especially on col, rainy, blustery winter evenings.

Noooooo! Keep them! I find my collection reminds me of the whole evening and not just the show - who I was with,if show was part of a trip or local, and what I was doing at the time etc. Wish I had more time to look at them more often and remind myself who was in what show. The collection is in need of a bigger house now but I'll keep going!!

Oh definitely keep them if you have room, or if you have a young family member or friend who would appreciate them, you could donate. I recently inherited a box of Wimbledon Championships programmes dating back to the 1960s until the mid 90s. They’re fascinating to read.

Personally I’d keep hold of them providing you have the space. I always find if I’ve held on for something for any length of time there’s usually a reason why (regardless of whether it initially springs to mind). Quite enjoy flicking back through programmes either to jog my memory of what show I’ve previously seen a particular actor or just as an enjoyable way of wasting a few hours

After getting so upset recently about someone just folding their ticket in half, I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight. Please keep them, if you possibly can.

Especially on col, rainy, blustery winter evenings. Exactly! It was only recentlyish that I found out I saw David Tennant when he was very young, fresh out of drama school - it was in the early 90s at Dundee Rep, in The Glass Menagerie. All through the Doctor Who years, I had no idea. He was good, but not memorable.

What about specialty arts libraries or drama schools who might want them?
Does MAD Trust have an eBay fundraising account like Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS does? (I hear BCEFA takes playbills, sometimes — though I haven't tried it myself.)

I have a collection of everything i've seen for many years and my mum has a collection dating back a long way with some really special shows. I'd never throw any of it out!

Especially on col, rainy, blustery winter evenings. Most definitely! I was amazed to discover that the young man who covered Valjean many years ago was the superb John Owen-Jones.
