I am deleting my account. I make a point of not getting involved in social media because I hate the tedious “political” spats, name calling and the like. This has been the only form of social media that I have actively contributed to because I adore Theatre. It is a great forum but I have found myself drawn into unpleasant disagreements where people have rudely ignored online etiquette and resorted to shouting and insults (and strangely such virtual exchanges are every bit as awful as real ones might be). I find myself wanting to be rude and insulting in return and that goes against the way I want to treat others or be treated. I enjoyed my time here but I’m off. I wish you all happy theatregoing.

Oh wow! Surely this is something the moderators could have dealt with?

We deal with problems as they arise and as they are reported to us. Everything put in front of us is carefully considered and we try to resolve situations so that members feel they are welcome here. It doesn’t always work out. Sorry to lose anyone.

Well don't be too hasty and delete your account, stay away from the political stuff if you find it provocative and challenging and stick to the theatre conversation on here, what this board does best and by doing that I can enjoy your future posting, as I have with your past ones.

I only joined this place a couple of months ago, but one thing I do have to say is that I’ve found this little community to be one of the most pleasant and respectful I’ve ever visited.
Maybe I had just been hanging around with horrible people online for the last 20 years.

The key to keeping things pleasant is to put the people who rile you up/ you can’t resist arguing with on ignore. That way you don’t get tempted into interactions with people who bring out the worst with you (and the people who are actually trolling don’t get what they want: a response).

That only works to an extent - you still see what they've put when they're quoted by others!

That only works to an extent - you still see what they've put when they're quoted by others! We have improved the ignore feature so that quoted posts by blocked members are also hidden. It might not work on mobile platforms but we've done our best to tackle this issue and do what we can.

Stupid and annoying people are everywhere. Anyone who can't adopt an attitude of "I can walk away from this and cool down for a while" is going to have a very bad time online.
(And, of course, most of the time the other person thinks that you are the stupid and annoying idiot who won't back off.)

If you can resist responding in kind and don’t get drawn in then you are part of the solution. I echo the poster who said this is the kindest on line community they’ve been involved with Have high standard, contribute to the debate on your terms and please stick around.

Given that the member has closed their account and no longer has the ability to respond it’s probably best to close this discussion now.
