^ Well for starters the artist in question would have to be willing to go. I'd imagine Adele would rather do her washing that night... Rules for who is sent? I really don't think there are any beyond the fact that you are only allowed six people on the stage. And the song mustn't go on beyond three minutes. Other countries have sent well respected artists in the past. We sent Andrew Lloyd Webber once, playing his piano and looking proudly towards the lass who was singing his song. He managed to get us a few extra points but not enough to win the competition. Jade managed to get poked in the boob by one of the remaining four people on the stage who were pretending to play the violin. She was poked by the violin bow, I recall. Nice song, but not as nice as France's that year, performed by big name (in France at least) Patricia Kaas. Et S'il Fallait Le Faire. Very Piaf! We came 5th that year so more than a few extra points. It was a totally facile lyric - It's my time repeated over and over. But easy enough to understand which probably helped. |

But my point was that was that even with The Lord, known to millions worldwide, we didn’t gain enough points to win the competition. If we’re talking points, it’s worth pointing out that even coming fifth we were still 214 points behind the Norwegian lad playing his violin (genuinely, not just poking people), and the 214 points lead was still way above what we actually achieved (173; I’ve just checked.) The “facile” lyric was provided by multi award winning Diana Warren, after Tim Rice turned down the dubious honour of writing for Eurovision for the second time. (His first attempt entitled Try It And See, written with ALW would be turned down by the UK Eurovision Panel back in the 60s and it was later used as Herod’s Song in a well known show they wrote together...) |

I haven't heard any of our songs yet. Am waiting to see it live on wednesday night. I see its been upgraded to BBC2!Love Eurovision, this year the final is on my birthday too!

To be honest, given how OTT everyone else has been over the years, I doubt anyone would notice. We have tried all sorts of styles and genres - to no avail. Even if we did have the bestest song in the world ever, with the most amazing staging, brilliant vocals and a huge promo tour, we would still fail to register with the voters of Europe. |

Having just listened to our possible entries, surely there only 1 that can win. Storm by SuRire. I can see it being sung by the thousands of people in the arena on the night. The chorus is simple, catchy and very easy to join in with, and its got a positive message. I'm surprised i like it so much. The other girls' songs sounded like Little Mix reject songs, though i did quite like Goldstone 'I feel the love' which also sounds like an old Atomic Kitten track! Anything but that dreadful Astronaut.

No jumping up and down, and no silly dancing boys. I hope we can come up with a strong concept for the actual night. Already in the diary. |

My prediction skills are improving. Right result on the night.
Really didn't get the love for Asanda. She was impossible to understand and was out of breath badly by the end

Yes the best song won on the night, but if they were the best 6 songs from 100's submitted, what were the others like? I can't believe we could not have come up with a better 6 songs than that. I probably thought that last year and the year before and the year before.....
On the plus side Mans is very easy on the eye.

Mans is very easy on the eye - even more so when he rips his shirt open in Love Love Peace Peace...
I think Storm will do ok. It has a strong 15 second/30 second recap potential. There is a slight Euphoria vibe to it - and she can sing the hell out of it. It was her performance tonight that won people over - she wasn't registering with a lot of the the commentators until this evening. Most of the attention was on Asanda and Jaz.
We won't win. But then that is an impossible dream.

I love the song, but think that the middle 8 needs to be stronger and have more of a punch. It drops back to the 'Storms...' refrain too quickly.
Still, i think it's one of the strongest UK entries in many years.
I didn't realise that Asandra was the favourite to win the show tonight.

I liked the song from the start - but it only really came to life live. I would like to think it will be left hand side of the board - but it is too early to tell with 80% of the songs yet to be revealed!
Asanda just couldn't cope with the routine and the singing at the same time. I played it to my housemate and she couldn't actually identify that she was singing in English!

At last a really good song for the UK with what was needed many times before - a great hook to it. As was said above the Euro crowd will be singing with it as the audience did the other night. Who decides what songs go into the melting pot - they certainly don't seem to have any idea of what is needed. Agree the other songs were not much at all. Sounds a pity Portugal are not having LED screens, the settings for the songs are a second great attraction. Lets have a Portuguese Riverdance at half time or better still let Ryan interview all the handsome male singers, I am sure it would be more fun than the corny chats in the Green Room.
Fingers crossed for SuRie.
