Thanks. Shows plural - interesting! I wonder if Sonia Friedman is planning to bring in The Jungle from the Young Vic, as rumoured by Baz the other week. That would mean a substantial reconfiguration.

More unfounded speculation on my part but I could also see Sonia Friedman transferring Albion from the Almeida to here. Would it work in the round?

I don’t know what producers are involved - but the last I heard it was definitely going to be an ‘in the round’ season helmed by Daldry - so The Jungle would fit with that....

Good to see ATG do something interesting with the Playhouse, it's always been a tough theatre to fill mostly due to its location.

My guess is a run of The Jungle followed by a transfer for The Inheritance, both from the Young Vic.

Yes, perhaps, you're right Jon. Then again, it looks like it has a talented, young cast and if it receives ecstatic reviews, they might market it as the next Angels in America and it could do well. Daldry and Redgrave would also be a pull commercially if the reviews are good. I thought I read somewhere that there was a plan to transfer it but, to be honest, I can't recall where I saw that. Maybe Baz will have some details tonight (if it's not all movie awards stuff!) |

Angels in America seemed so "popular" because of a very limited run (only 44 performances including previews) and a core of superfans who saw it several times each. West End shows have to be genuinely more widely popular. |

Bless you, it would've sold out at the Nash with three times the performances, and it's selling pretty well on Broadway even at Broadway prices. Even though an infinitesimally small handful of people worked out loopholes to enable them to go 3 or 4 times, the vaaast majority were limited to 1 or 2. We as a board have concluded before now that the superfans don't keep shows running themselves, even with hundreds of trips to Les Mis or Wicked, so it's hilariously bizarre that you've looked at the painful and limited ticket-buying process for Angels and concluded that *this* is the exception.  |

There was a handful on this Board so very likely others too. the superfans don't keep shows running themselves, Yes, that's exactly my point, bless you. Superfans soak up the availability in a limited run of 44 performances, and the NT also has a raft of regulars who block-book for loads of shows. But in the West End, with far more tickets available over a run, shows need much wider appeal. |
