Surprised there has been no discussion of this previously. Has anyone on here seen it?
I watched the final matinee performance today, and have to say that I really enjoyed it, finding it to be a very strong opera. The production was very well directed, and looked gorgeous, with ingenious use of projection. It was performed excellently by the cast of principals, as well as the chorus and orchestra. I also found the plot to be very convincing.
Reviews mentioned that the music was perhaps the weakest part, but I thought it had some beautiful moments, particularly nearing the end of Act Two. It also seemed extremely singable, which can sometimes be something of a novelty in modern opera. I would certainly like to hear it again, and will be tuning in to the Radio 3 broadcast on Saturday. Presumably, this will also be on Live in HD when it goes to the Met, and a recording will materialise from that.
Hoping ENO sees fit to revive TWO BOYS, as I would like to hear that now.

Saw it on Friday. Agree on all counts. The story zips along with some good twists. I did not know what to expect and ended up really enjoying it.

Many of the reviews compared this to the film ( unjust IMO ). I found the music engaging and the production values high. The use of a countertenor was slightly strange, I would have preferred a Tenor to add more malevolence to the voice. But I came away feeling this was harshly reviewed by most of the critics. I would happily see this again if revived.

Nico Muhly has provided the score for the new BBC Howards End. It finished yesterday but is on iPlayer (the first episode goes off iPlayer in a week). I saw some complaints about the music on Twitter and in today's Guardian review, but I thought it was excellent.

Yes, I have recorded all episodes of that HOWARD’S END, and am very much looking forward to it, even more so since I found out that Muhly has written the score.

I saw Nico Mulhy performing live doing his collaboration with Sufjan Stevens and others a couple of years ago at the Barbican - the finished version of this was finally released this year planetariumalbum.com/

We were at the Planetarium concert at the Barbican too. It has taken so long to release the finished version that my eldest has gone from being a schoolkid to being in his second year at university in the time it has taken!

Btw, the Howards End soundtrack is on Amazon, with sample bits to listen to - if you haven't read it/seen it, the track titles are a bit spoilery.
