So, caught a preview screening of this last night.
In terms of the storyline, I don't want to give to much away other than to say it's ..... interesting.
It's based on a true story and (apparently) the movie being made within the film has become a modern-day cult classic that has been running for over 10 years, with those attending quoting lines and bringing along props, such as plastic spoons for each screening. Basically, this has become The Rocky Horror Picture Show for our times.
This film belongs to the Franco brothers, each equally as good as the other but in two entirely different roles.
I'm not going to lie to you, once or twice I found that James Franco's character made me squirm in my chair. There were however, some laughs out moments. At one stage, bar a strategically placed 'sock' he walks around the film set totally naked.
It was also interesting to see Dave Franco's character develop and grow in confidence- in every aspect.
Seth Rogan. The affection these two actors have for one another is well documented, however he does not play a lead, but a supporting character; an important role, but a supporting character nonetheless. Personally I love Seth Rogan. I really do and how refreshing to see him portray a more 'grown-up' role, other than a stoned out looser (which he has done very well in the past).
This film is dripping with cameos from famous actors. Or lots of actors who face you recognise, but don't actually know their name. Literally from the first shot. Some you've not seen on screen for some time, each on screen for a minute or less. Trust me, if you're not recognising these cameos, you're not watching the film properly.
And at the end they do a split screen so you can view the original film/actors and dialogue to compare with what they have recreated.
Finally- trust me, this isn't in any way a spoiler- once the film ends and the credits role, don't leave your seat, as I did as there is a little additional bit worth watching at the end as I learnt after returning from the toilet.
