It definitely has to be musicals but this year I have seen more plays than I usually do and I'm starting to be more fond of them.

I've seen maybe 11 or 12 West End plays this year, which is tripple what I have in the past 6 years all together. Yes. Be proud.

About the same for me, and plays win (I think) because of the dialogue, which is critical. However clever the lyrics of a musical, they can't say as much or go as deep into character as spoken lines and the sung-through type of musical, when I'm caught unawares by one of these, really makes my heart sink. It's probably why I see no ballet and very little dance generally, though good tunes will lure me in a couple of times a year. Not sure if I entirely agree since I think musicals can be as powerful as a play, look at things like Hamilton which tells a compelling story mostly sung through. Indeed, Jon, this is simply my view and as I've said, even I can't be sure that's why I prefer plays over musicals but it seems the likeliest explanation since it works for the other genres I mentioned, too. As for Hamilton, I haven't seen it and don't plan to as although I was initially interested, once I found out the type of music involved, it put me right off. If there's little or no dialogue, at least give me decent melodies instead! |

Generally I prefer musicals to plays, but I make an exception for Mischief Theatre. Same for me. The only plays that I've really enjoyed have been the 3 productions by Mischief Theatre. All my other favourite productions are musicals. |

Plays more than musicals, mainly because 9 times out of 10 the style of music used in most productions just isn't my cup of tea.

All my other favourite productions are musicals. I wouldn't quite go that far. I have enjoyed a number of other plays over the years, though all also comedies. |

Musicals for me, although have seen a few great plays. Probably because I love music and the mix of music and hopefully a decent story is something you cant beat(in my humble opinion!)

There are gradually fewer and fewer musicals that interest me in London. Come January, I will probably say 42nd Street is the only one I’ll happily repeat view (I do like You g Frankenstein- but once you know the story and twists, the humour, I found, was a bit underwhelming).
At the moment I would say I’m more of a play person - I do like a dark comedy - but it really depends on quality and what’s out there. I go through waves of plays and musicials.

It's always been musicals for me - I was a musician before I was a theatre lover, and for me there is nothing better than a good musical if I need cheering up.
I do try to see some plays though - sometimes for the cast and sometimes because it's a play I enjoy or feel like it is too much of an event to miss out on.

Years ago I used to see alot of comedys [ Brian Rix]. Very few these days. It is virtually always musicals for me now.
