While browsing through several threads, I've noticed that some board members do see the same show multiple times and made me realised that how rare is it for myself to see a show more than once. This year, all the plays and musicals I've seen have been shows I haven't seen before and IMO it's good to see a range of shows rather than the same show over and over, the only time I see a show again is if I'm going with someone else who hasn't seen it before or if in the case of Aladdin, Mormon and Hamilton, it's a show I saw on Broadway or elsewhere and want to see how it compares.

I’m like you. Of over 200 shows I’ll see this year, only two productions are repeats for me. The first was 42nd Street which I liked so much, I booked again as soon as I got home. The second was the Royal Ballet’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as I saw it alone at first and knew my other half would like it, so booked again. Otherwise there’s so much new stuff around that I cannot fit in, that going back seems a luxury!

Since I have to travel into London from abroad and pay London hotel prices, my time there is far too precious to keep seeing the same shows over and over when there's always so much new stuff to see. Like you I make exceptions when I take someone along from home to get them to see a show I liked. I enjoyed Book of Mormon in New York (where I saw it alone just after it opened), then took a friend in London and later my Mom as there's no chance in hell of BoM coming to Germany and if it did, it would be ruined by an awful unfunny translation. Next month I'm dragging my mother over to London again and take her to see Kinky Boots (which I've wanted to re-visit for ages but never got around to) and School of Rock. The latter another show we'll never get in Germany because of the children. Kinky Boots IS opening in Germany, but would require a full costly weekend-trip for a production in German, so not happening for me.
Of course there are exceptions - in my young and fan-obsessive ways I went to see Cats several times in several places (feel free to judge to your heart's content). So when I see the current Cats tour here in Cologne next week, it's defnitely as a repeat offender, but I haven't seen the kitties for years now (even missed the two brief London "revivals" due to giving new stuff my preference) so it'll feel more like a trip down memory lane (no pun intended). It's easier to revisit shows here in Germany because there is far less choice, too. Going to see Tarzan again soon, despite seeing it in New York (where it was okayish) and Hamburg (where I couldn't enjoy it at all because I was bogged down with migraine that evening) and after listening to the "Bat out of Hell" recording on a loop for weeks, I've given Tanz der Vampire another chance (since it's also Steinman music, you just need to ignore the daft plot, the squeaky girly voices and inane German lyrics) and booked for when it's here in town next spring. My fourth outing actually to a show I love to hate. But yea, when it comes to London - much prefer to see new shows as there are always so many musicals and plays to see.

Likewise having also had to travel to London/NY for the 'big' shows I rarely revisit when I go. However I do tend to see the big musicals when the tour comes around as it's usually a few years later/nice to see a different version of it. Likewise when a Broadway show comes to London (unless I hated it haha). Those are usually a few years apart though.
I have gone through my 'obsessive' phases or even 'accidental' repeat viewings: I've somehow seen Wicked 5 times and I'm not even that big a fan (NY, London and tours). I have also twice seen Avenue Q in the same week because I booked on my own and then friends booked another trip in the same week.
And then there are the obsessions. The Boy From Oz back in the day...first thing I saw repeatedly, I hit 10 times over the year which I think is my limit for one production of the same show over an intense period. I also will go and see virtually any production of Rent, for both professional and personal obsession. And I saw Angels 4 times live and NT live this summer, because...well.
There are plays that I think I'd want to see again just to absorb more of them, and if I lived in London I might be inclined to do that more but generally it has to be something pretty special to warrant it.

I think "obsessed" was a bit tongue in cheek....aside from the teenage year of Hugh Jackman! Mostly it's things that made such an impression I feel the need to see it again and "unpick" more of.

I think I've seen around 230-ish musicals and I've probably seen around 15 of those more than once. I'm on 10 times for Wicked (don't judge) and 4 for Priscilla, Sister Act and The Bodyguard, but mostly I'll see things once and then move on. I'll generally only be lured back to a show for an exciting cast change 😁

The pieces I have seen more than once (and would happily return to) are mostly musicals. These currently stand as: Les Mis, Phantom, Wicked, Miss Saigon, Kinky Boots, Funny Girl & Dreamgirls. I saw The Girls the most I’ve ever seen a show - so far - at five visits, mostly due to the cast... so I’m not sure if I’d revisit it again on tour.
Those I would happily get to again in a heartbeat are: Rent, The Color Purple, Dear Evan Hansen, Waitress & Come From Away.
I mostly go for shows I’ve yet to see though, unless something has really got under my skin and I simply HAVE to go again.
I’m generally less likely to go back to a play unless it’s really made an impact on me.

Yeah I can understand that. Wicked just does something to me, and it's featured some of my favourite theatre people over the years (Kerry Ellis, Rachel Tucker, Louise Dearman, Oliver Tompsett...) so I've had to keep going back! I've spread it over 11 years so it doesn't sound quite so insane... 😁 but normally I agree with you and rarely go more than 3 times to the same musical. There are some you'd have to pay me to sit through again!!
