Anybody know why choreographers count in 5-6-7-8 rather than 1-2-3-4?

The first bar starts with 1-2-3-4, so my best guess is that everyone starts simultaneously on the actual 1, they count 5-6-7-8 (as 'introduction') after which the first bar starts on 1-2-3-4.
