Tut tut, another thread I've had to start for a film which has been out since last Friday and probably seen by some here. However, as reviews have said, though short (71 minutes) it's absolutely hilarious, if very black, and has a great cast (including Kristin Scott Thomas, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy and Timothy Spall). It really enlivened a wet Wednesday afternoon and the other oldies at the performance I attended were also hooting and chuckling. I've never seen a Sally Potter film before as her earlier work hasn't appealed but I'd be a late convert if she'd write and direct more like this.

Sorry, I went to the LFF screening with Potter, Scott Thomas, Murphy, Spall and Ganz in attendance and thought the whole thing was pretty terrible, possibly the longest 71 minutes of my life - I just couldn't see the point of the film, it had no relevance to me (and I can't imagine it having any relevance to anyone else I know either) and if the blurb in the festival programme hadn't said it was supposed to be a comedy I would never have thought it was supposed to be one. Everything just seemed too far too obvious, cliched and pointless (and irrelevant to the vast majority of people), it just became a chore after about 10 minutes or so. Anyway, rant over, as you were...

Apols if I missed your comments in the LFF thread, Marwood, and sorry you didn't enjoy the film. It has evidently divided us but I relished it, however implausible, and had the impression that the writer/director and cast were having fun and letting their hair down. I didn't rush to see it at the first opportunity since it was so short; that honour went (justifiably imo) to The Meyerowitz Stories, but for me this was a jet-black gem.

no problems showgirl : I don't know, it was just one of those films I couldn't get along with, and as I said in the LFF thread, I liked Brawl in Cell Block 99 but I can imagine some people hating that with a vengeance.
