ON Sunday October 15th BBC4 are broadcasting the recent Otello from the ROH which was the debut of Kaufman in the title role. While he’s not quite the Otello of my dreams it should look and sound great on TV. There will be a season of documentaries on TV and Radio to follow. Details are sketchy at present. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/operaseasonWhen you know the background of the current boss one might reasonably expect a little more considering how the BBC used to be, but let’s be thankful for what we get. As they are linking this to the new exhibition I thought the thread should too. www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/operaIt’s had great reviews but the only person I know who’s seen it, wasn’t so impressed. I will go but my expectations aren’t that high. Opera exhibitions don’t seem to be able to capture any of the vibrancy and excitement of what is after all a performance art. At least it’s not just costumes and models of scenery, that’s been done to death. We’ll see.

The Guardian review sold the exhibition to me. I'll report back in November

Yesterday I stumbled upon this www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4CvzyxwvmXRPsRnm5tY0crc/watch-semele-from-garsington-opera on the BBC's website as part of their opera season. I haven't watched it yet but the production got reasonable reviews & I listened to & enjoyed the radio broadcast of it on R3 a few months ago. (Quite why the BBC are doing both a radio broadcast & a webcast of it I don't know.) Unfortunately the website doesn't seem to say anywhere how long it'll be available to watch.

Thanks for the link to the SEMELE, Dawnstar. I knew that they were going to release it online, and have been looking for it for a while.
Looking forward to the Opera Season, particularly the OTELLO, which I saw live at the ROH, and the new Jonas Kaufmann documentary TENOR FOR THE AGES.
Aiming to go to the V & A Exhibition. Will try and book this weekend.

They will be showing Jonas Kaufmann's Otello which was on at ROH earlier this year.
Does anyone have more details on this. Do you think it will be on iPlayer?

Went to the V&A exhibition today and it's great. If you go, really allow some time (they recommended at least 70 minutes.) It's beautifully curated and ends with large screen showings of some key recent operas.

I’ve booked for the V & A for February. I’m actually really excited! I’ve left about 2 hours. Should that be enough?
Also, it looks like they have moved the TV showing of Kaufmann’s OTELLO. It is now THIS Sunday (15th October) at 10.30pm, straight after the Kaufmann Documentary.

Yes, two hours should be good (we did it in a bit less than that) - just make sure you leave a good amount of time for the last room. That is the one where you can sit and there are huge surrounding screens showing excerpts from operas like 'Einstein on the Beach' or 'Written on the Skin.' Hope you enjoy it!
