Loved the partnership with Dean Martin.
RIP Gerry. Thanks for the giggles.

I can still remember the impact the movie 'My Friend Irma' made on me in Sydney when I saw Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis doing crazy things on screen for the first time in about 1949. Jerry Lewis was a great comic and a very talented man.

PS I was twelve years old in 1949 – a very impressionable age!

Reading one of his obituaries in the paper, it seems that he was the first choice for the role eventually played by Jack Lemmon in Some Like it Hot, but because he (Jerry Lewis) had previously slept with Marilyn Monroe, he decided to decline the part. This may be a myth that has become fact over time, but Jack Lemmon sent him a box of chocolates every day for a year, as a thank you.
