I'll second that. Definitely well deserved. Her autobiography That's Another Story is a great read. Funny, poignant, generous to others. She's always maintained that Victoria put the brilliant words in her mouth and she just spoke them.

Well deserved and long overdue!
I agree, her autobiography is wonderful, lots of really funny tales from her early theatre days!

Victoria was well known for wanting the actors to say the lines as written and not liking any deviation from the script.

How lovely is this? The team surprising Julie on set. Seems like a popular lady.

Always a great shame Victoria Wood didn't live to get her Damehood must have been very imminent as Julie got her's this year.

Not that I'd heard of, she'd been made an OBE then upgraded to a CBE so she was certainly prepared to accept honours. I've heard of people who will accept honours after their names but don't want to be Sir or Dame etc - thew late great Paul Schofield being one. He accepted a CBE and a CH but apparently turned down a knighthood at least 3 times.

Julie and Victoria both got their OBEs and CBEs in the same year, so I think it was kind of accepted they'd get all their honours simultaneously. Shame we never saw Dame Victoria.

Good to hear that Julie has recovered from bowel cancer. It must be very difficult to decide whether to ‘go public’ when you’re in treatment, she obviously decided not to just as Vic Wood chose to do. A happier outcome for Julie though of course. She’s stepping back from films apparently. Too stressful, she doesn’t want to do it any more. The clip I saw with Victoria Derbyshire didn’t elaborate further than that but it does sound as though we’ll be seeing less of her. She’s had a stellar career and owes us nothing so good luck to her if she does pack it in.

It'll be a shame but bloody hell if anybody deserves a happy retirement it's her!

I don't think she's retiring from acting completely but I wouldn't be surprised if she opts for roles with less demanding schedules.

Glad she’s come out the other side of it - bowl cancer is nasty business. I think she is stepping back from film in terms of not working as much (she has done a lot over the last few decades) but is open to accepting the right projects - she mentions she’d go back to Mamma Mia in a heartbeat as that doesn’t feel like work.
I don’t blame her though. She’s in a position to have a wonderful retirement if that’s what she wants and to make it a real adventure too. I know she has always said she wants to do a stint in Corrie so I’d love to see her tick that one off her bucket list.
