Plenty of copies of Biggins autobiography in my local Poundland the other day, I was (nearly) tempted to buy a copy so I'd be ready well in an advance for my works Secret Santa, it's the perfect gift to give to a colleague to show them how much they are respected and appreciated by an unknown workmate.  |

Thanks for that! Actually now that you mention it, I do remember the Oxfam shop as I often stay at the Travelodge in Drury Lane. Might offload a whole bunch of English-language books there, then use the free space in my suitcase to lug Sharwood's cooking sauces home (You may laugh, but I was so annoyed when I realized I could get a 2-for-£2 deal in London when a single jar costs around £3.50 here...) |

Picked up a copy of Burt Reynolds: But Enough About Me in the Croydon Whitgift Centre Poundland earlier this evening, I wouldn't go so far as saying I'm chuffed to get a copy but I was thinking about paying full price for this a couple of years back so I'm happy enough - I drew the line at buying a copy of John Altman: In The Nick Of Time though.

Poundland now have an Elvis impersonator as the recorded voice at their self service checkouts. This is hilarious the first time you use them, but then deeply irritating on all subsequent occasions.

I have got tons of DVDs in Poundland I always have a good look at the CDs and got quite a few musicals.

Assuming you're not of these shores and genuinly asking and not having an aversion to the poor people in the world (reminds me of Will and Grace on Les Mis "will there be poor people singing again? I'm not going if there's poor people singing") It is a mysterious land where everything costs £1. (or thereabouts). It's a Dollar Store for British people. Oh em, it was my febble attempt at humour as in the Dowager Duchess in "Downton Abbey" "What is a weekend". 🤣Well I got it and appreciated it hulmeman , I love that line, and will happily use it myself since I retired from work (hurrah for me !). It winds people up no end. . It can be adapted too, as in “what is a Bank Holiday?”. I’m also reminded of Brian Sewell’s comment “what is Sunny Delight?” . I can’t recall the exact context but he was being deliberately supercilious and oblivious to the radioactive beverage being consumed at that time, by presumably poorer people. |
