I know there is a lot of love for Mr Allam (and his hair) on this board...
Attended the UK premiere of his new film "The Hippopotamus" last night at the BFI - an adaptation of the Stephen Fry novel. I didn't love the film, it's rather oddly paced and not all the characters are well drawn - but Allam plays the lead character and narrator and absolutely steals the film. Recommended for Allamphiles.

Thanks for the recomendation! I love Mr A (and his hair) but I'd actually forgotten he was in this, and if it's worth a look for him then I'll give it a go!

I love him, too!
The Divine Mr A is reading TYPHOON by Joseph Conrad to me. He also narrates a good deal of Jeffrey Archer, but I'll forgive him.

He also narrates a good deal of Jeffrey Archer, but I'll forgive him. Don't tell anyone on the book thread, but Jeffrey Archer is my guilty reading pleasure.... There's a lovely anecdote about Roger Allam in Sher's Year of the King when he misreads the call sheet and fails to turn up to the first run through of Richard 3rd. Apparently his understudy was alarmingly brilliant! (He never did that again.)
Indeed, Sher's nickname for him during that production was The Voice Beautiful!
