A sweet little play, but would have been better at an hour or so shorter. There's only so much acting one can do in a long silence. Some variation in pace would have been welcome. And putting long silences everywhere reduces their effect when the story actually needs them..

Thanks for the positive comments on here guiding me to this, went to today's matinee and absolutely loved it. Needed to get into the appropriate mindset and would have been a disaster if I'd been trying to watch this on a Friday night after a tough week. But going in expecting something which was going to take its time and reveal itself slowly, I sat back (difficult on a high stool at the back of The Pit) and let the characters talk (when they felt like it).
I can't add much to what has already been said here, I think it really worked in representing some people that we don't often see on stage (or, when we do, are represented as a "problem" or "issue", or even as comic relief). I thought all three lead characters were realistic and believable, and I enjoyed them revealing themselves slowly, with the missteps and leaps forward that we all make when forming friend-not-friend relationships.
I think it will be a while before I see something quite as thought-provoking as this again.

Seems there was a few of us at today's matinee, thrilled I managed to get a Friday rush ticket.
After this and Circle Mirror Transformation, its clear that Baker is one of the best dramatists working today, and is a master at observing people's desperation. Astonishingly it didn't feel like over three hours, and the silences (as with CMT) were perfectly placed and timed.
Its a struggle to express my admiration for this piece without repeating what has been said, but all the superlatives on this thread rang true.
I was convinced there was a simpler way of doing 'Six Degrees of Separation' between Britney Spears and Michael J. Fox and spent the interval thinking about it, and came up with one that has come up since the play was first performed: Britney Spears in Crossroads with Zoe Saldana Zoe Saldana in Guardians of the Galaxy with Glenn Close Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction with Michael Douglas Michael Douglas in The American President with Michael J. Fox
(Sorry to be a dweeb and post that, but I was impressed with myself and felt the need to share with others who have seen the play).

Squire Sullen, all I can say is WOW! I spent some time thinking about it myself and never really got started. Most impressive!!
