As Springterval (as I am choosing to call it to annoy the Daily Mail) is almost upon us, thought it might be useful to flag up this thread from last year on theatre closures over the Springterval weekend, particularly Good Friday (Saturday and Monday seemed to be largely business as usual) theatreboard.co.uk/thread/541/national-theatre-closedThe results of my (not particularly exhaustive) research on Good Friday last year was as follows. Worth checking before you head out if you are planning to day seat.

Quick look at 4 mentioned: Royal Court - is closed for Easter period. National - no shows on Friday (but open for tours) Bush - open on Friday Trafalgar Studios - shows in both on Friday
I've also noticed ROH has no performance on Friday.

I don't suppose any theatres are planning to add a sneaky Good Friday matinee? I've got a show booked for the evening, but as I've got the day off work, it seems a shame if I can't turn it into a two show day.

Does seem a bit weird to close when everyone is off work and looking for something to do, but I guess they know what they're doing - perhaps there's no demand over the long Easter break?

I suspect its because in the past actors and audience have got distracted by everyone chomping on hot cross buns. So best avoid the problem altogether.

Bank holidays normally result in higher pay checks. Venue I worked at last week paid double time on a bank holiday, plus a day off in lieu. So that might be another factor.

Just had a look at the situation this year. Interesting how this has changed over the past few years.
The National and Royal Court are both still closed on Good Friday (National open for tours). The Royal Court re-opens on Saturday - it used to close for the whole weekend. Both the Royal Court and National have performances on Easter Monday. All the others mentioned above now have Good Friday performances. Also outside the West End, The Bridge also has a Good Friday performance.

How terribly, terribly thoughtless/selfish of some theatres in refusing to open on arguably the most important religious day in the Christian calendar.Dearie me.🤷♀️
