Oh I rather liked Peter Ustinov as Poirot. 'Death On The Nile' and 'Evil Under The Sun' in particular are completely campalicious.

I know Ustinov is a marmite Poirot - but he just works for me. I can't stand Albert Finney's take on the role.
On the flip side, John Moffat's radio interpretation works brilliantly - probably because you can paint your own pictures of each scene.

Preferred Margaret Rutherford to Joan Hickson. If they re-boot it a bit Deborah Findlay would be good. Suchet terrible as Poirot in my view - of the very technical "look at me act" school.

I did enjoy the ITV Marples, and their slightly over the top tone lent itself to Christie. I even enjoyed some of the story embellishments and significant changes to the original stories (with several episodes that were not originally Marple stories) I hated the changes ITV made. I stopped watching after an episode when they changed the identity of the murderer! Given how good the Joan Hickson versions were, I find it hard to see the need for anyone else to take on the role. The ITV versions just weren't Marples to me - they were just playing at it! Bizarrely, I never took to Suchet as Poirot. I could see how technically impressive it was but my Poirot will always be Ustinov. If we must have new Golden Age crime novels on screen - why not turn to some of the other writers? Ngaio Marsh is ripe for rediscovery and I think we could live with a Wimsey reboot. I much preferred what I've seen of the Joan Hickson ones (I was too young for the original so have only seen the odd re-run). I loved Suchet as Poirot. He kept me watching even when the adaptations got ever further from the books. Slightly veering off-topic I've also seen Hugh Fraser, Hastings to Suchet's Poirot, play Poirot on stage! I'm not sure I'd want Wimsey to be re-done. I thought Edward Pethebridge & Harriet Walter were perfect in the roles, I only wish they'd done the lot rather than only 3. I've never found Ngaio Marsh's detective, Roderick Alleyn, to be very distinctive. The British Library is reprinting many vintage murders so anyone looking for material should find plenty available! For theatre fans I'd recommend Quick Curtain by Alan Melville. I really hated Petherbridge in that, so colourless and limp and wet. Ian Carmichael definitive in that role.

Matt Henry as Miss Marple - I'd buy a ticket.
