I don't usually watch daytime TV as at work but off this week and flicking channels. Came across Judge Rinder and the actress Julie T Wallace (lives and loves of a she devil) was in the dock. Obviously acting judging by the circumstances oF the case and with an odd accent.
Thought it was meant to be real life cases and it's classed as reality TV. Bit it's clearly not.

If they're using actors that would be completely against the premise of the programme.
Vanessa Feltz was disgraced and lost her daytime tv show for doing the exact same thing if I recall correctly.
Are we SURE it was Julie T Wallace?

They have had former celebrities on there before with genuine grievances (seemingly) using their real names. Was she using her real name and could it be that she overacts things naturally when in front of a camera and that in spite of that the circumstances were genuine.

Don't know if using real name as just caught the last few minutes when he was making his judgement.
If it wasn't her she was a damm good lookalike. Julie is very distinctive as very tall with a mole in her upper lip.
Maybe it was just coincidence.

And when the defendant loses they dont pay the fine, ITV does. It's not a real court in any way although Rinder bases his "judgements" on real law unlike Judge Judy who just makes it up as she goes along.

It's part of the deal offered to people to get them to appear, along with an all expense paid mini-break in a hotel near Salford Quays. This will appeal to a certain type of punter, presumably.
There are lots of sources of info in the states as to how Judy works. The producers trawl local papers and upcoming court listings for minor disputes and offer the people involved $$ to have it dealt with on tv with no financial risk. Of course the appeal of a hotel break in LA may trump ITV's offering. The claims and counterclaims are written heavily influenced by producers who are keen to get the best story out of it. That's why the plaintiff and defendant often seem hazy about what's in them, contradict their own story etc. Judy hasn't practised real law for decades. It's a huge racket and to be treated as entertainment only.
I cant say that's completely the same in all respects for Rinder but the fact that they make him out to be a judge when he isn't suggests to me that it's effectively the same approach.

Me and the bf went to manc to be in the audience of JJ last year and was finally on last week!
He's very funny in real life. We were there for 6 hours recording 4 episodes and in the last one he got so angry with this woman that he walked off set! Me and the bf had a massive row about tipping after

Judge Rinder was at American in Paris the other night for a ballet charity function, I got strange looks when I pushed Leslie Caron out of the way to get his autograph.
I have seen this and it is a take on the American version Judge Judy, it comes under the colloquial term, with Jerry Springer or Jeremy Kyle as 'Car Crash' television.
Ironically the BBC does quality television during the day and I would say it is better than their evening offering, I love Escape to the Country and Bargain Hunt, their quiz programmes I also very good, especially Pointless.
Today you watch ITV in the evening and all it is, is soap operas. The Chase is the only decent programme they do now.

Someone who was on Bargain Hunt complained that the "expert" assigned to them was very rude and appeared to be drunk. I always look for signs of who it might have been. |
